Damaged paint - what's the reason?
Hi!
I was cleaning my car today and noticed a small pustule-like spot on the left front pillar. Unlike regular dents or scratches, it doesn't feel like the external layer of coat or paint is missing or bashed in, quite the opposite, it is slighly domed outside the nearby area. Those are the photos: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1o9...MSLv3wumJLXsf- https://drive.google.com/open?id=1A_...3p31xb2mNZUoSW https://drive.google.com/open?id=13b...TCQ7OYU1c3F9nb Is it possible that this weird thing was caused by a hit of a rock (or a suicidal seagull ), or is it more likely that the damage is internal (corrosion or something like that)? Thanks! |

My guess:
A small rock chipped the paint all the way trough to the metal, the metal started to rust and this results in delaminating of the paint. |

As far as I know, it has not. I bought it new, so I thought there was no reason to actually check if it was repainted. Of course, there are some chances that it was painted twice on the factory or that some incident occurred at the dealership and the pillar was repainted. Unfortunately, neither me nor any of my friends has a paint thickness meter, so it is hard to tell for sure.
As for now, I covered this chip with touch-up paint. It doesn't get any bigger or more domed, so it is okay to keep it as it is, I guess. At the same time I found a couple of similar chips on the boot lid. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1zyA...w?usp=drivesdk https://drive.google.com/file/d/13JL...w?usp=drivesdk The one near the rear light is located on the dent that occurred when unattentive driver rear-ended me, but the area around lower one was not damaged. The black points around are dirt. |
