I side with the 'no' crowd. If you instead threw a set of M perf black grills on that thing, it would be perfect, IMO! Nice looking car.

OP
I am curious why you have a chrome bimmerang on an M-Sport--mine's black And NO to the black wheels because they tie the chrome parts together but if you go ALL BLACK...YES! |

I'm partial to gray or black, but honestly, the only opinion that matters is yours. Nothing wrong with trying out a temporary color from a can on one side of your car to see what it looks like. Don't listen to the plasti-dip haters on here. If the plasti-dip application looks like crap, it's probably because zero effort went into prepping and applying it. The key is applying the glossifier.

I was going to get black wheels too but once the other mods were completed, I realized it would be a little over the top with the black wheels too. I'm happy with things how they are now. But hey it's your car, do what you like with it

I personally am not a fan of black wheels because I feel it blends too much with the tires and looks weird, there isn't any contrast but to each his own. Now, If you were to dip your wheels in some flashy color like a blaze green or orange then yes it may "scream I'm 17 years old" but it isn't the dip that causes this effect, it's the choice of color. I'm a dipper and enjoy everything that's offered with the product.

Gloss black paint with flat wheels isn't enough of a contrast imo because flat wheels blend too much with the tire. That Cayenne IMO works just barely because the wheels have a chromed or painted lip which provides some definition. Without it - the look would IMO be pretty meh. There are definitely some good looking murdered out cars out there, but there are also a lot of extremely boring and/or stupid looking ones. Its not as simple as just making everything one shade.

However, as many have mentioned, you need to have a pretty aggressive look for black wheels (i.e. the M3 pictured has flared out fenders, sport suspension etc.), so you may also entertain doing some suspension mods to help the look as well. The Bilstein/H&R combo works well for aesthetics, and gives you another level of performance. Just my $.02... Good Luck, and happy modding!

I don't like the powder coat. I decided to go with glossy Black m5 reps. I was on the fence with black on Black But know I love it.

IMO, Dark gray/gunmetal. Black rims on a black car doesn't have enough contrast. Maybe if you get colored calipers and gloss black rims. But still, I'd go with a gunmetal on a black car. If the car was white, then I think black rims would look better.
Good luck with what you choose and post pics. |
