Help Hail Damage!
Huge surprise hail storm hit DC on Tue night, and my cars have some damage. Wanted to get an idea from others what to expect from the process, cost and timeline. I am contacting my insurance company today to start that painful process.
My X5 has mostly hood damage maybe 15-16 dents, and the 335i has trunk lid and roof damage with 3-4 on the hood. Needless to say very sad, since I just picked up the 335i last Friday.

I'd ask your dealer for a recommendation on who they use for PDR. The areas of damage are easy to repair, you really get into trouble when the dent is either hard to access from behind or near a crease in the body work.

When I did a club tour of the Jersey City VDC, we saw the staff PDR expert demo a car with serious damage. Half the car was repaired, the other not. It was amazing what he could do.

Definitely use the PDR method. Had a buddy had hail damage on his whole f30. Took it to the dealership and insurance paid out 8200 and no painting was done at all. He would have pocketed some serious money if he used a PDR on the side. Get a quote from a body shop and find a local pdr.

When a car is repaired under insurance the repaired parts are no longer covered for subsequent damage unless you prove that the repairs were done. If that reveals that they overpaid for the work done they will take a dim view of it. This is one reason why insurance companies tend to make payment directly to the repair facility.
