WeissLicht Spektrum LED signal bulb

note: (lifetime replacement warranty as well)
I replaced the incandescent rear turn signal bulbs with a pair of the amber Weisslicht Spektrum LED bulbs. The amber light output from the LEDs is bright enough to get the amber light out of the red lens, so if you prefer the safer amber turn signals, this is the cheaper way to do it. The more expensive way is to replace the entire taillight housing (i did that before discovering the cheaper option).

Someone on the bimmerfest forum also replaced the front turn signals with the Weisslicht amber LEDs. But he claimed they were dimmer than the incandescent bulbs so he returned them. I have no way of verifying his claim.

I believe them that these will be brighter. But I also fear that since they are fast-responding LEDs, they will still flicker every time the bulb-test signal is pumped out, so we will still have to code that test to "off".
Do you have the link to the "flat bulb" that you were talking about?

I don't know about these "flat bulb" but with the Weisslicht Spektrum LED bulbs, your BMW has to be coded to prevent the regular flickering due to system tests.

It is the same link from above. Go to the Weisslicht site and scroll down until you see where it says NEW FLAT SIDEMARKER BULBS.

Thanks. I see it now. It does not say flat but it does say "Spektrum special sidemark chip bulbs".

I have these for the tail, brake, and turns in my X3 (trimmed off the pin to fit the sockets in the front) they are brighter than stock filament all around no doubt:

https://www.superbrightleds.com/more...ed-tower/1326/

I am having an issue with the rear signals blinking off time (ie when the flashers are on the passenger side blinks slightly before the driver side) not sure why this is.... When the errors are not coded off they blink together but as soon as I code away the errors they go off time. Any suggestions on this? Front signals are always synced.

How far off are we talking about here? I have no such issue with the Weisslicht Spektrum LED turn signal bulbs from bimmian.com.

The delay almost looks like the videos posted where one side is incandescent and the other is led. Although not quite as noticeable because in my case they both are instant on/off LEDs not 2 separate bulb types.

About 75% of the time they are out of sync and 25% of the flashes they are fine I don't get it.

I'm with you on this.. The Weisslicht Spektrum amber LED turn signals are bright enough when i installed them in the taillight so it's hard for me to believe they would be dimmer than the factory incandescent bult when installed up front.

According to the customer support from bimmian.com, "The Spektrum side marker chip bulbs are designed for the side markers on vehicles which have side markers". In the F30/F31/F32, the front turn signals are also the side markers so these side marker chip bulbs are not designed for them.

You're reading it wrong. It has side marker chips... it's a side marker chip bulb. Aka it's meant to double as a blinker and side marker.

It's designed for a vehicle that has side markers (aka ours) as opposed to a vehicle that does not have a side marker (Anything before somewhere around 1970).

+1

Let me put it this way: Your eyes will hurt when you look at them.

At least other drivers will get the message that you want to change lanes.

The F32/36 turn signal bulb is indeed a PY24W.

I kept my chromed PY21W silver vision type bulbs from my F30 thinking I could pop them in my new F36. Nope.

Don't really need LED. I'd be happy if I could just source a PY24W silver vision type bulb but have not been successful finding any yet.

I just ordered the WeissLicht LED front turn signal bulbs. If they go well I will be doing the rears then also.

I ordered the Horizon fronts and backups last night. Already have the brakes, rear fogs and rear turns. Couldn't bring myself to spend $100 on 2 bulbs for the Weisslicht.

A little help on how to change these.. I got the flap off, but then I couldn't twist the bulb holder out. The car was still warm. Could that be the reason, as it had expanded from the heat? I couldn't find any DIY videos on YouTube either..

I had a pro do it for me on the lift. He had to pull the wheels, because access was awful with them on. Even then he had a hard time doing it and had to use pliers to turn the holder.

And then he put it back in because the manual specifies the wrong bulbs so I bought the wrong ones.

Yea. It's hard. I'm going to give it 1 more shot, then just give up.

Are you able to twist it all? It only needs to rotate about 30 degrees then you have to pull it out. At first I thought I didnt rotate enough but it really is not much of a rotation at all. Then once rotated a bit the bulb base is still stuck a bit so you have to pull it out. What worked for me was to "backhand" it. For example, for the left side turn signal, I used my left hand. I noticed by leaning towards the front of the car so my left arm is at an angle to the fender gave me more leverage to twist.

It didn't even move at all. My assumption was the engine bay was still hot, so the plastic had expanded. I'll give it a try when the car is cool.

Glad to see you got it to work! My hand and are also lanky and skinny, so I have no problems reaching it.
