The Hate is real

I was parked on commonwealth blvd. (bellerose, NY) on Sunday night and someone keyed the passenger side of the car. What surprised me the most is that Bellerose is a good sub-urban area in Queens.

I don't have any crazy enemies or anything. The car was parked between 2 driveways and there was only space for 1 car. So its not like "I was asking for it"

The car barely has 4k miles on it and now I have to do a comprehensive claim on my insurance to get it fixed.

I am a first time BMW owner. Any of you guys experience anything like this before?

I know bellrose very well and is a nice area relative to the rest of queens... But my advice is if you want to keep a nice 60k car parked on the street move out of queens. It doesn't matter how nice the few blocks you live in you are always surrounded by savages. And... Your Mayor doesn't care about quality of life type crimes..(I know as my family are cops and that's the new directive)

This won't be the last time your car is damaged either from vandales or idiot driver.

Sorry to see though... It really sucks. Hopefully it can be buffed out but it looks deep. Make sure you file a police report. The proble is people don't report this and that's why they don't get the necessary police presence that deters crime like this.

This exactly. It's truly unfortunate, but I've had <30K cars vandalized in the NYC area, in nice areas and not so nice areas.

Also keep in mind, people are just careless, it can easily be someone walking next to your car and their bag brushing against it.

Sorry for your headache.

How bad is it?
Its hard to tell from the pics, but I cant see any major damage that a professional compounding wouldnt remove.

Can you feel that its deep with your fingernail?

The part on the door looks pretty light, almost to the point where a good wax applied by DA polisher would be able to remove it.

Ive been keyed worse than that where the paint was actually broken and flaked in places.
As much as it does suck, and I feel your pain, I think you may find that you dont need to file a claim to have it fixed.

Thanks guys.

The cut is deep in to the paint, well beyond the clear coat. I work in Long Island and the car is parked in an underground garage and at home its parked in my private driveway.

This is just another one of those "you live and you learn" moments in my life.

Come on guys, don't bash Queens. I live right next to Francis Lewis High School in Fresh Meadows, and have parked numerous expensive cars on the street (X5M, 750Li, CTS-V) and none of them have ever been keyed. The bumpers get hit all the time because people can't drive, but thats life in the big city. This wasn't some random thing. Somebody got pissed off and this was the result.

Graduated from there in 94. That place is an absolute zoo now. Insanely over crowded. Lived on 187 over by the park

Why would someone take a risk for no reason, just to key your car OP?
Maybe 1% of the world's idiots would. The other 99% need some sort of a reason, weather you're aware or not.

Something as simple as cutting someone off can cause them to follow you to your house, see where you parked, then come back and key your car.
Someone in my neighborhood blew by a stop sign (at 20+mph, slowed down from 40+mph in a 25mph zone) today as I was approaching the intersection. I was extremely tempted to chase them down and confront them but calmed down and let it go. However, that is enough reason for some people to chase you down and damage your car, house and maybe even you if you piss them off enough.

Maybe you're that 1% that did absolutely nothing though and ended up with that one jackass.

Sorry to hear about your car. I spent time in queens for college and this does not surprise me in the least. Street parking anywhere in queens was a crapshoot. I think these are young kids causing havoc. Scary what young kids do when they are bored.

Street parking is a crapshoot whenever there's a lot of kids around (high school to college aged), avoid it much as possible. I had a 3 series when I lived in Pittsburgh (lots of students around), and had several key marks. When I got a Porsche, nobody even touched it. But now that I'm in a 3 again...I'll pay the extra money to avoid the aggravation

Yeah, that really pisses me off. It has nothing to do with anything but envy. I assure you whomever did this doesn't key Honda Civics.

A friend of mine was parked in the Upper West Side (a fairly upper middle class area) and got numerous key marks on his e90. Insurance covered a new paintjob though. If I were you, I would try getting it buffed out from a good detailer and if that fails, BMW will repaint the panels for god knows how much..

I'm pretty sure the only safe areas in Queens are Flushing and Jackson Heights. Lots of brand new Mercs, Audis, BMWs parked there because of the influx of flashy, wealthy immigrants. Lol. No hate, my parents are immigrants too!
I've been parking in Jackson Heights for months and so far I've had no problems.

In Jackson Heights you need to be more worried about being shot than your car getting keyed.
