F30 Auto Start Stop Stalling

Has anyone have any issues with the auto start/stop function stalling the car upon reignition?I picked up my 335i f30 last week and so far this week, it had stalled twice. Both times, my engine had been cold and below the 160* mark on the gas temp gauge. When the car tries to restart after the it had shut itself off to the ready position, it would stall and put the car into neutral. I'm not sure what is happening and can someone chime on whats going on? Thanks!

Bring it to your dealer. There about 170 different checks that the car does before the A.S.S. takes action. Lots of things to change while your car is stopped and then looking to start again

Drove close to 500 in two weeks on new 335i, no issue.

Did you try to accelerate fast right after lifting foot off the breaks and then stalling?

I am just trying to figure out the pattern what happens before it stalls.

Both times I was not accelerating fast at all. I just removed my foot from the brakes and it stalls before I even put my foot on the gas.

Auto start/stop has worked perfectly for me, but I'm not sure all the claimed tests that BMW lists in the manual are true. This morning, I drove from my house to the first intersection, about a 1/4 mile, and auto start/stop activated. It was about 50F out and there's no way the engine could have reached normal operating temperature during that short drive.

Ceks, what you describe happened on a test drive in a Motor Trend article (see other thread). Here's the excerpt:

The biggest problem we discovered came from the automatic stop/start system. On three occasions, the system deactivated itself while the car was stopped at a light with the engine off, leaving its driver stuck in neutral with a line of honking, angry drivers rapidly forming behind.

This sort do stuff worries me and makes me consider waiting to purchase my F30 until BMW irons out some of the kinks.

I'm guessing BMW will be updating software on these cars in the near future... in the meantime, just disable auto start/stop.

The engine does not have to reach normal operating temperature for stop start to work, it only needs to reach around 68 F ( 20C) depending on engine model

Take the car to the dealer.
Their system has a specific test function to thoroughly test the Auto Stop Start system

If there are further problems, contact your dealer immediately. I would also suggest to contact Motortrend as JoeyO quoted a similar problem in their tester to yours. This problem is a very serious one and should be addressed quickly.
Plus, I wouldnt like to be seen stuck in traffic in my brand new ride

Motor Trend complained about the stalling on their tester as well.

I had a bmw 528 rental car that stalled on me a few times, my ex gf 335 did this. I have been trying to sell myself no getting a new f30, but I think I am going to be returning to Audi.

I understand the auto start/stop can manually be shut off every time you turn on the ignition. But can you permanently turn it off by some setting inside iDrive so you don't have to be bothered doing it every time you turn on the ignition?

No. It needs to be on by default for BMW to get credit for it for CAFE mpg ratings. Same reason why driving experience settings defaults to the more relaxed Comfort mode throttle/transmission settings.

May be possible by dealer. See this thread: Disabling Auto Stop/Start by Default

this just seems retarded and unnecessary ware on the ignition system. do manual f30s get this stupid feature? if they do i cant imagine how it works, and reliable.

The things that car manufacturers have to do to get their C.A.F.E rating. its ridiculous and needs to be overturned. Hopefully we see some new faces in november.
