F3x M-Perf Bodyparts - can they be left in the primed state? updated with pics

http://s23.photobucket.com/user/nism...c809c.jpg.html

Hey guys,

Bodyshop told me I have to paint the M perf Parts - the front splitter, rear diffusor and side skirts - the parts installed on the touring in the pic I stole.

Is this the case? He says the primed parts will turn white after getting sandblasted by the elements.

Thoughts please?

Thanks!

I've had a ton of unpainted lips/diffusers/splitters on my cars and never had any issues...

...though I live in sunny California and not Alberta so I'm unsure how the weather/salt will affect the parts. Even painted, I can imagine that particularly a front lip would be susceptible to chips.

Thank you

Went ahead and installed unpainted...

Worst case scenario pull it off and spray down the road!

No. You don't have to paint them. They are on most cars as the matte black state that they come from the factory. Just search the picture forum and you'll see all colors with the matte black look.

The parts are not primed so it's ok, if they were the primer(which is porous) would absorb contaminants and would require stripping and re priming.

From Montreal (we share almost the same climate):
- Front lower lip unpainted (splitter is color-matched)
- Side extension unpainted
- Soon-to-be middle diffuser part will stay unpainted.

You'll love to have those parts unpainted.
Not only it gives a nice contrast (unless your car is black like mine), but it also protects from the stone chips and it isn't affected by it.

And, most importantly, you won't be getting all crazy when you scrape your front lip on a parking exit or a big bumpstop !
Don't ask how I know...

Just do a wrap instead. Can be done in one afternoon and if looks crappy later rip it off and re-wrap. Heck do a cf wrap!
