I don't own a N20 or 26, but having had at least 4 loaners with the N20/N26 I get between 24 and 25 MPG with 50% City/50% Highway driving in sport with a heavy foot (8-speed auto). In comparison, I get about 23-24 MPG driving in the same manner and in the same conditions with my 435i MPPK with a 6-speed MT. The only BMW loaner that I actually got really good gas mileage with was a 328d, where I got 35 MPG combined, driving like a j-hole.

I'm don't exactly drive the car gingerly and do spend a lot of time in traffic during the week which should be considered with my numbers:

20ish. I drive around town a lot, when I'm on the highway my mileage is nothing short of incredible though.

Hi,
I have 2014 F30 with 41K miles on it and use Fuel Buddy on my Samsung phone to track MPG & some other auto related expenses. Car's average MPG currently is 30.3; get about 34 on highway & 24 around town |

Depends on length of trip more than traffic
Cold start. 5 minute commutes are terrible to mileage even if you simply hop on freeway and exit to destination.

Eco for city; Sport for highway
Quote:
So, moderating throttle response during highway driving, which is typically more about near-constant speed than it is about stop-and-go driving, does little to help mileage. Worse yet, using Sport for city driving boosts acceleration from stops, dragging mileage down even more than Comfort would. You'd be better off (but a bit soulless) using Eco in the city (to drive more calmly) and Sport on the highway (for the times when you need to pass). |

Lifetime of my 320i is 27.8mpg
I don't know how to get more out of here really... I'm around 75% highway 25% street. What's more impressive, is when I drive her hard, the MPG barely changes. |

N20 average 25.3 mpg atm, have about a 48 mile daily roundtrip with 42 of those being on the highway. Hopefully in the summer it will improve if I use the AC less. TBH I don't drive that crazily and really thought I'd get better gas mileage than I do.

I understand where you're coming from. I'm going to try Comfort Mode on the highways just because I can get 8th gear. It's difficult for me to drive in Eco, or even Comfort, in the city simply because I enjoy having the ability to zip in and out of traffic with ease when in Sport.

I'm always switching between Sport and comfort in City. If on freeway and it's moving, I'll have it in Comfort.....

N26; comfort mode; spirited driving at all times:
25MPG at 28.7MPH average speed over the long term--this includes my 12 mile round trip commute over semi-urban streets and an occasional highway drive. In my typical short term driving, I'll get around 300 miles and then fill up with 13.5 gallons, resulting in about 22.2MPG. The N20/26 must have the best performance+efficiency characteristics in the business. |
