Well, very hard to say what is "normal" in heavy city traffic, but overall, the lure of turbos for gas mileage is overstated. No doubt, BMW and other manufacturers working the EPA mileage cycle can do all kinds of things to max out their numbers, but the real world is another reality. My experience with several turbos from different manufacturers is that your mpg depends 100% on how little you can get into the boost. Drive on the "back side of the throttle" and you will do OK, but if you are "in it" after every traffic light, then expect to burn gas like a V8. Turbos are no panacea for gas mileage if you actually choose to use them.

I've been surprised at the gas mileage performance. Mixed city/highway commute into downtown LA, I normally see 25 MPG. 335i 8AT MPPK. If i drive in sport it goes down to 23 MPG.

I am right about the same for my daily city driving. Drove from Oregon to Southern California this week, eco pro mode averaging 70 mph, and I averaged 34mpg.

Exactly why I sold my brand new BMW X1 after 7 months of ownership.
Although the 4cyl is powerful, I needed to floor it all the time to have fun, thus the worst MPG I was getting. Don't get me wrong, it's a great engine, but I'm back to an inline6 and will keep it that way, as long as BMW offers it.
