I called the 800 number and it says my vehicle is still at the port awaiting a vessel. The vehicle made it to the port on 12/3.

My vehicle has arrived at the port (Durban - South Africa) on 12/11/2012 and as of 12/20 still is "at the port awaiting a vessel".

I wonder what the process to assign a vehicle to a specific vessel might be: first in, first out, destination ...

It's completely unpredictable. It took a month for me to go from production complete to getting on a ship (2 ships left south Africa in that time)

I just spoke to the sales guy, was on the phone for 30 mins just to confirm what hell is going on. He pulled up my car and the car is in transit and is on the "PRIMROSE ACE" even though the 800 number and online still don't confirm that. I would recommend calling your dealer and confirming. The PRIMROSE ACE is due to be in the Port of Baltimore in the 01/07/2012 and hopefully I will have my car by the 11th.

My Timeline:

Production: 12/1-12/6
Transported to Port: 12/7-12/8
At port: 12/8-12/19
In transit: 12/20 - now
ETA at Port of Baltimore: 01/07/2013

Hope this helps

I am on the Primrose Ace...emailed my CA. It has been at the port since 12/7. Here's what he said:

Today it shows 'in transit to final VPC' with an estimated duration of 19 days.

Here's the info on the vessel:

- Mitsui OSK Lines
- Vessel: Primrose Ace
- Voyage: 47A
- Bill of Lading # 691467824
- Departed 12/19/12

Mine seems to be moving faster than some others on here...maybe due to final delivery location? Hoping it doesn't take forever when it arrives in Baltimore to get to Ohio.

My timeline is almost identical to yours:

Production complete: 12/6
At the port: 12/11 (confirmed by the dealer today)

The only difference: my vehicle is going to Southern California and I wonder if the destination may play a role in the vessel assignment. Some vessels go directly to the US-West Coast. Could my vehicle be waiting until this vessel becomes available?

For those on the US-West Coast with SA built vehicles, which vessel did your vehicle has been eventually assigned? Did it go directly to the West Coast? Or - did it make a stop on the US-East Coast?

Yeah, the Primrose Ace doesn't go to the West Coast...East Coast then South America then back to SA. It does that over and over...just makes a big loop according to the ship website.

Anyone know how to verify that a vehicle (using the VIN) is currently on the Primrose Ace?

My car just got to the port. For those of you taking delivery after the new year, did you get the incentives locked in? Did the dealer put it in writing?

Just got word from the dealership that my vehicle is on the Primrose Ace as well. Estimated arrival (Port Brunswick, GA) is 1/11/2012.

So if it arrives on Jan 7th, how long will it take to get on a truck for shipment to the dealer? What are my chances of getting it by the 25th of January when my G37 Lease is up?

Have a feeling it will be close...I just want to get my car and am so excited too

I am in Baltimore and my dealer said if I don't hear back from them by the 11th then Customs is holding it up. Customs can hold the cars any where from a day to months

I am hoping it is only a day or 2.

If all goes well your car will be on a truck 5-8 days after unload from ship. Then figure another 2-3 days for dealer delivery. I'm guessing this will work out for you.

If your car is not an ED being shipped to US, Customs will not hold up car (unless we have a time of civil unrest). Factory built/delivered cars typically are cleared by paperwork only. Rarely do physical inspections take place of cars never delivered.

What could hold up the works at the VPC is customer ordered parts being installed, minor damage needing repair, cars failing quality inspections, parts/replacement parts that were airfreighted by BMW for VPC install (usually stuff damaged or missing from production line).

According to the tracking site, it arrives at Port Brunswick on 1/14. Then you know its going to sit at the VPC for at LEAST a day or two or three. (BTW, WTH does VPC stand for NEway?)... Then a week shipping and another day or two for dealer prepping. I would say we will be very lucky to take delivery before 2/1.

I for one am going to ask my dealer to skip any vehicle prepping. I plan on driving it straight to get tint, detailed, clay, opticoat, etc.

VPC = vehicle processing center

Also dealer can't skip prepping. This is where they remove all the plastic from the car, install license plates, add fuel so you can actually drive, etc.

I just don't want them to put their crappy towels on my car. We'll see how that goes. If not, no biggie, it'll just be a little more work for the detailer if there are swirls.

According to the 1-800 line, my US-West Coast bound 335i xDrive is still at the port in Durban awaiting a shipping vessel since December 11, 2012. I hope the process of placing a vehicle on a ship will be demystified one day.
