Sure, the 335i is certainly an upgrade, but if money is an object, the F30 328i makes much more of a case for itself than the E90 328i (in my opinion, of course - some die-hard I6 fans may certainly disagree).

Incredible.
Am I the only one who thinks he'd be better of with a 328 instead of a 335i which he ordered? I know myself, I know BMW for years, I just want a 6 cylinder, a BMW 4 cylinder to me seems crap(been there done that) etc etc.

But what's the gain in having a 335i when the 328 figures are almost the same?
The only con thing I can think of is the awful sound in the 328, but can I live with that?

Sorry if I sound daft, but what does "candy-ass" mean, when talking about the sound?

Octane is measure differently in USA and Europe. 91 US octane corresponds to about 95 in Europe.

Looks like the new 328i is a very competitive package compared to the 335i, much more than the old one. And definitely the better bang for the buck.

Rumors are BMW will come out wit a 340i to re-create the gap between 328i and 335i. We'll see...

I'm leasing a 335i. Will be interesting to see what the general consensus is among former I6 owners how have gone to the new I4.

I always put BP Ultimate 98 in my car. It's more expensive, but there is a powergain of a few hp and more mpg. As I recall TopGear(?) tested a few fuelbrands with different octane a few years ago, i.e. a Golf GTI engine (200BHP stock) had 195BHP with fuelbrand X(95/91 whatever) and 212 BHP with BP Ultimate 98...if I'm not mistaken.

At the moment when they aren't even delivered yet, it's all PRO 328 and CON 335.
I don't think that will change a lot once the former I6 drivers collect/drive their 4 potters. As we all here already stated, you have to live with the sound. And that is the only CON I can find in a 328i for now.

Won't the next GTI be coming w 230+ hp and 260+ tq from the improved 2.0t? The golf r was almost as fast as the is around seca... Also, if you need that top end the 335i ftw. If you compare the track video of the 335 vs 328, the 335 seems to have 10-20 mph on the 328 at specific points. Nonetheless, The n20 is a sweet ass engine and most bimmerphiles will choose the 4 banger

Yes but unfortunately this does NOT seem to be the case with the N55 335i which is running putting down performance times worse than the E90.

It seems quite clear which model Munich wants sold.

If sound is the reason to fork over 7k you can keep it. I will be blasting my music on my extra $900 stereo any way, will not be hearing the engine ;p

Put it on an engine dyno if you want real conformation.
I tried to explain this a while ago to numerous people and I can't see to get through.

Unless the dyno takes into consideration all gear ratios, rear end ratio, overall wheel size and weight those numbers could be just as effective as if I just pulled them out of the hat.

+1.

You can take the same vehicle from one dyno to another and it can read 20hp different. The best comparison for car vs. car on wheel dynos is to do both cars at the same dyno back to back, otherwise you are always playing the "correction" guessing game.

Looking young for your age + actually being under 30 = not exactly something that works in your favor for getting a solo test drive in a 40+K car. Even if you roll up in an E90 335i.
You need to find a better CA. Mine will let my son at 25 have any set of keys, including to the M3, for unsuppervised test drives.

I've only driven the F10 528, but I was very impressed with the output of this engine. It is plenty of engine for 90% or the people out there. It felt almost as quick as last years 535 and for most people, that feel is all that matters. I think the motor is a win.
