I think I'm going to make the switch back to summers this week after all. Next 2 weeks forecast overnight lows no colder than low 40s here in SE PA, and I'd rather preserve my Sottozero3's for when they're needed. Maybe I won't need to go back to the winters until next season...

This issue is always lost in all the discussions about the merits of switching summer/winter tires. In many climates, the "transition months' (i.e. Oct/Nov, March/April) often have 40+ deg swings in a given day. Just today it was 30 deg this morning and it's now 70 where I live. Whether running winter or summer tires, you have the wrong tires for at least half the day.
So you are forced to choose between poor grip in the morning/evening from rock-hard summer tires, or excessive wear and squishy handling in the middle of the day from winter tires. I've decided that I'm done with winter tires for these reasons. I'll run "All Weather" (note: NOT all-seasons) tires like the Nokian WRG3 Oct-April, and summers from May-Sept. The moderately better snow/ice performance of dedicated winter tires over all-weather tires isn't worth the drawbacks four months out of the year. |

After a couple weeks of Spring, it's going to snow again on Sunday.
What the F! Plan A: Stay home Plan B: Swap back to winter for 1 day Plan C: Hope no snow accumulation
