Intermittent comfort access issues?

In the last couple of days, I've noticed that when I try to open the front door on the driver's side of the car to get in, the comfort access fails to work. If I proceed to unlock the door with the fob, I'm all of a sudden able to lock and unlock the door by way of CA again.

No problems with locking the car using CA. No problems using the hands-free trunk opening feature.

I'm anticipating the number one response to be "Take it to the dealer" but I wanted to see if anyone else was experiencing similar issues before having to take my car back AGAIN right after having my rear rotors replaced.

Make sure you're grabbing the inside of the handle. The grooves are only for locking.

Oh I am. When the CA refuses to work, I basically stand there in the parking lot pulling on the handle to no avail. Feel like a carjacker.

use only your 4 fingers with your left hand, if your thumb rests on the grooved portion, you're telling it to open and close at the same time...

No offense to those who have responded but do you think the OP is a moron? If he has had the car a while he's clearly been able to use it before so the step by step seems like a dumb response...

I just had this start happening! It's annoying and aggravating... My buddy works for BMW and said I have to bring it in... Said it could be the key battery starting to go(on a 6 month old car with 14k on it... Whoever told BMW is more reliable that an Audi lied!)

Don't feel bad though, this will be the 5th time I'm going to the dealer.

Thanks for the tip (I know you weren't trying to be condescending) but I'm quite familiar with how CA is supposed to work.

I should have been clearer in my original post.

Looks like the key battery could be the culprit for me then as well if you're experiencing the same symptoms. At least that will be a relatively easy fix (or so you would think).

And 5th visit? Sorry to hear that man. This will only be #3 for me but I had 0 problems/dealer visits over 5 years with my previous E90s.

@hit sorry ybbiz34 - you're right, I wasn't trying to be condescending, I actually had this issue myself because my wife couldn't get in, and I would experience the hesitation, and we were arguing and had to go to the user manual to sort out the finger placement...LOL! I'm clearly a simpler man...interesting to note re: battery, I'll keep in mind if it happens to me now that I've self-taught how to use a car door handle ;-)

If the key battery is the cause, the fix is very simple. Just remove the cover of the battery compartment and insert a new 2450 battery.

Look at page 30 of the owner's manual to see how it's done. Unfortunately, the procedure may not be as easy as is shown. It could take a little time and effort to open the cover. Keep trying and eventually, you'll get access to the battery.

Haha no worries my friend! Who ended up winning the argument?

So sorry to hear OP!

I just cant believe how many issues I see daily on these new F30's. Thankfully I've been okay but every day I get worried at the slightest rattle, squeak or even vibration.

I hope we dont face any more issues later on...good luck with everything bud!

Thanks for the well wishes, Maz. Although I've had my fair share of minor issues with the F30 up to this point, overall I am still very happy with the car!

Basically, I can easily live without CA, and at least I wouldn't feel like an idiot standing there putting my hand in/on the door handle over and over.
The freaking fob is so f-ing huge I would just start using it regularly, but it's too damn bulky to put in a pocket comfortably.
If there were an option to have a regular sized fob and NO CA I'd rather have that.

The trunk release works fine, as long as I remember that I need to have the fob somewhere on or around me.

I've had issues with CA from day one. If it's the battery, then it was a bad battery from day one.

"COMFORT" access. NO, it's not so comforting.

comfort access

My comfort access stopped working.

It was traced to a problem in the passenger side door handle than needed to be replaced.

I know this is an old post I just thought someone might have a similar problem and find themselves here.

Good luck
