Does such a mod exist? (dynamic exhaust)
I am no guru so excuse my ignorance...
Is there such as thing as an exhaust with a switch to turn it "loud" vs "quiet" ? Some sort of switch mounted in the dash that I can use to turn the sucker to "get the hell out of my way" mode or to "the kids are sleeping" mode... Maybe a valve mounted in the pipes controlled by some servo motor.... If so, where can I get one? Whats the google keyword? thanks Skimo |

I'm not sure of any aftermarket exhaust that still uses a flap like the stock exhaust, but you could always look into using electronic exhaust cut outs where you can basically bypass your mufflers by opening up a set of valves. Not sure if that's exactly what you are looking for though.

Our PowerSound exhaust is somewhat what you're describing, using a valve mounted near the tips to open or close a valve for additonnal performance and sound. It has to be manually adjusted.

Here you go:
A'PEXi Exhaust Control Valve (ECV) The ECV was created as an alternative to the standard silencer typically fitted in the tip of performance exhaust systems to lower the sound output. The ECV (Exhaust Control Valve) is a spring loaded butterfly valve that can be installed to the main piping of an existing exhaust system. The angle of the valve can be modified on the fly from within the cockpit to provide complete control over exhaust decibel output. Part # 155-A014 : Flange Type; 67mm 155-A019 : Pipe-Type; 80mm It can be fitted on nearly any exhaust system you buy, in respect to the pipe diameter of course.

Haha... that apexi unit looks like it works off of a throttle cable. I would just go with an electronic cutout, even though the motors are built like crap and burn out if you hold down the toggle switch for too long.

You're welcome. It doesn't fully close physically, the picture shows how the flap will be when fully closed.

I installed one of those APEXi exhaust valves on a CRX, it worked exactly as advertised. One caution, in fully closed position the car turns into a total pig and can't get out of it's own way.

Op: Your best bet is electronic cut outs. Although you might be surprised how quiet some aftermarket exhausts can be during normal driving vs. how loud they are at WOT. |

what exactly are electronic cutouts? also, I dont think the valve closes completely since it will definately be detrimental to the engine so its got to be partially open no mater what. I'll give these guys a call on wed and let y'all know what happens
