I wouldn't run map 2 without a DP. I am waiting for someone to try a 10-20% ethanol mix with this combo though

Wasn't game to try map 2. Happy with map 1 for now.

Of course I did - pronto. No offer of anything until I asked for refund. Going through PayPal.

They could not understand why I had the problem until I showed them photos of measurements with callipers.

If stock dimeter of around 46mm is nice and tight fit, how on earth could over 48mm fit? It doesn't. Poor engineering & manufacture. Someone made an error.

I sent back the downpipe to XS Power after PayPal decided in my favour. Not hard after XS also agreed to refund me. I will ask Active to install one, which they recommend.

Anyway, even Map 1 is very enjoyable. After driving for a couple of weeks with it, there is a certain degree of performance increase compared to Stage 1. Sport plus DS makes the car very, very responsive and quick off the mark.

So I received my money back from XS. I checked out what my local BMW tuners use. Active suggest a vrsf catless, whilst Southern BM suggests Wagner dp.

Only thing is, vrsf don't make a catless for the 328i, at least not that I can find on their website. They are resellers of an aFE unit.

Active are asking $1k installed, whilst Southern ask $1.2k.
I will think about it for a while.

Wagner make nice gear IMO and IIRC I think you, like me, are a fan of SouthernBM. That's the way I'd be heading if it were me.

sorry to dig up an old thread, but how has it been running? have you had it on a dyno? what kind of numbers are you expecting from this? is it the stock exhaust pipe from the DP back? how does it sound?

sorry for the bomb of questions, but I am about to do the same/similar mod.

thanks bud!

No dyno results. I am getting the factory mid pipe modded with a flex join which will ease fitment and give it better longevity and Reduce NVH. Still cheaper than buying brand name. Steel is steel and can be modded if necessary. Just as long as extra labour doesn't exceed cost of a reputable easy fitment one.

In a previous post I mentioned I was happy with JB4 on map 1 with stock downpipe. Yes i was. Until I had a catless dp installed yesterday. Changed to map 2 on my JB4 iPhone app and off I went.

At first I did't feel that much improvement because traffic was heavy after leaving Active Motorwerke in Burwood, Melbourne.

I drove the car twice today and the second time I could really feel the instant power & torque delivery.

Comfort setting is nice and quick, DS is even quicker, but Sport setting is phenomenal. I still couldn't test things out properly due to driving on suburban streets with other cars, but during the short sprints, the car's performance has improved by many notches.

I'm very happy with the setup and so far no, I cannot smell anything in the car without the catalytic converter.

With stage 2 and grippy rear tyres- I can pretty well beat most non-modified v8s and WRX's off at the lights and out of roundabouts. Surprises the crap out of them - especially with grandpa spec luxury wheels and body.

After a week of Melbourne metro and return trip to Ballarat driving, the upgrade has been a complete success. Free flowing engine, revs very quickly, no cabin smells, improved exhaust note with windows and or sunroof open but nicely muted with them closed.

The car responds very, very quickly, but there's always going to be that little turbo lag due to the nature of how turbos work.

Highly recommend upgrade.

You don't need a fancy catless dp. Any one that fits will do the job. Just have to make sure the check engine light 'error' is cancelled. I have a JB4 with the bluetooth i{phone) monitor. Works a treat.

There's no turbo lag in sport mode! The car will produce more torque below 2,000rpm than a V8 pulling far less weight. It's just in comfort mode that it wants to sit at 1,100-1,300rpm.

The only thing that sucks is that there's No more power to be made without effecting engine reliability.
