If you had to tap the foot light connection for power, it is the pinout on your connection, it won't work with both colors, only one. Depending on who you got the connection lead from will determine what color will work, either one or the other, but not both. If you connected it the normal way, by the dashboard power lead, chances are, it is also the vendor who sold you a cable that is incorrectly pinned.

It's powered by the led dash surround and the door strips, I have both classic and sport mode, so should be orange and blue, not connected to the footwell lights

So how do I switch the door LEDs to blue? They only show orange and are dark when switched to sport mode, they are plug and play, the y cable on the dash needs rewiring?

Yes, I would suspect the y cable needs adjustment to the pinouts.

I will try that, but what has swapping the pins on the lcd dash surround have to do with the doors not switching to blue? My problem is the dash surround and the door card leds are not switching and remain one colour orange

Question, did you have to code, your car to even have ambient light? If it already had it and worked perfectly before, then it would be definetly whatever you changed.

No coding the car already had classic and sport ambient lighting, after connecting the led strip to the cars wiring it never did switch. The dash surround led is connected with a y cable for power. But I don't see how this would affect the door leds

Hi guys,

Who can help me with sorting out the brightness of the panel.
It's too bright for me and doesn't match with the rest ot the ambient.
I just wondering how to lower the brightness only on this Ac panel?

Managed to order the last trim panel in Canada & finally had time to build the cable yesterday. Love that there's a very OEM solution to making this work, I wasn't looking forward to hacking up wiring when I picked up my car last month.

Super late to this party but I just did this the other day finally.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/314451800280

Link to Y cable for those not wanting to make their own.

I had issues with the bottom trim piece when I did my retrofit. The bottom piece kept falling out and didnt clip back into the ac center piece properly. The solution was to give it a smack with my fist and heard it click in. Just a tip for those who have yet to do this.

If you have no led light above cup holder and no footwell lights, am I right in that the ac surround ambient lighting is not possible.
Thanks

F36 and many trim options, center cupholder light

I'm looking to do this retrofit in my 2017 430ix Gran Coupe, and I see not only options for OEM BMW LCI AC/Radio trims, but also see a bunch of options on Amazon and eBay of what seems to be Asian equivalents. Any real difference before I pull the trigger?

Also, has anyone made a hole for center cupholder light in the dash. My car came with a USB port on the panel on the right side, but it seems that from behind the panel, the center light assembly holder is there, and potentially I could mount the cupholder light assembly there and drill a hole for the light to pass through.

I did this install today into my pre-LCI 328i which had the light package so tied into the LED in the cupholder. The light at the middle setting is very dim so I bumped it up a couple ticks and really pops now. I had previously installed the hex trim interior with piano black accent which really ties nicely into the gloss black LCI radio trim retrofit.

A big note here, the radio connector is by far one of the worst BMW tabs I have ever had to deal with. It's resistance to removal took me substantially longer than any other part of the retrofit. Think trim tool, small electronics flathead screw driver, brute force. Luckily, I didn't snap that connector however, a circular motion with robust force brought it out...

Other folks said that removing the radio faceplate and climate control plates were difficult however, mine popped pretty early with a nice Hazet wide, flat trim tool and some pressure towards release. There are 8 tabs per faceplate so that felt like overkill.

I also opted not to disconnect the climate control unit from the radio unit given the difficulty of getting the radio away from the car. I found this wasn't necessary to get everything put into the new LCI trim.

The OEM Unit is: BMW AC Trim Cover - Genuine BMW 64119358940. From FCP Euro it was only $66. I feel like I would always go OEM vs. Amazon or Ebay, all else being equal.

The trim is pretty thin and the holding clip isn't that robust. I would just put painters tape and drill from the front (e.g., faux pebbled leather) to the back (of the panel) to avoid pushing through the leather any more than you would have to.
