Comgratulations BMW on the podium finish despite the rough bit of bad luck on the karussell!

BMW got 1st place in 2010, 2005, 2004 and countless wins before that... BMW is still King of the Ring! And besides, 198 cars were in the race this year. And to get 2nd place on a track that's as narrow as 10 meters in some areas is some darn good driving!

My first time keeping track of the event with the live feed from the bmw website.

That's slower than the road cars..
Actually the 2nd place M3 GT2 ran at an average speed of 164km/h (over the entire 24h). The laptimes are in no way compareable to test laps. Those go over 20+ km (the SportAuto lap), a 24h race lap is 25+ km. The 2011 24h race was probably the fastest 24h race ever at the Nürburgring.

As far as the BMW statistics of this race go... in total 65 cars in the field were BMWs (including Minis), which makes BMW by far the largest marque in the field. Which has been true for a while. BMWs accounted for no less than 9 class wins (in a total of 26 classes) in 2011.

And as far as Porsche goes... not Porsche, but the Manthey Racing Team are king of the ring! Porsche knows, why they let Manthey prepare and race the cars and don't try to do it themselves!

Seems like Porsche 911 and M3 are always in that deathlock...it seems as if it were only yesterday that Porsche was complaining about BMW using a non-production V8 in their GTR car.

I would argue that BMW is the all time king of the ring with the most Nurburgring 24 wins in history.

As a matter of fact, Manthey racing had its 4 year streak (06,07,08,09) when BMW Motorsport stopped participating in the Nurburgring 24 during those years.

Mantheys streak was immediately broken the first year BMW Motorsport returned to N24 (2010).

If the #1 M3 had not spent a TON of time in the pit getting its entire front end after someone clipped it during the first 4 hours of the race this year, they would have easily beat Manthey. They also caught a 3 minute penalty because the driver of the M3 had to go through the grass at the karrusel after it spun out.

I'm not saying ANYTHING bad about Manthey, they are a phenomenal team, obviously. I'm just saying BMW has the better car and team, and the most wins at the N24.

The Merc SLSs did amazing. The leading SLS was called the heartbreak car at the end of the race. It swapped 2nd and 3rd with the M3 over and over during pitstops with the M3 coming out on top out of the pit. Towards the final few hours of the race (last 2 hours I think), something happened where the SLS fell way behind. I didnt see what happened but I did see it kick ass for the first 20 hours.

Porsche always cries about BMW.

It was in first place, here-
I have tried posting link here it is just posting the second link below. Video title:

copy and paste into YouTube search bar: 2011 Nurburgring 24 Hours Race Leading BMW M3 GT crashes at Karussell

This isn't just the first time either. The Z4 car was also clipped and flipped over the barrier.

These drivers in the lower classes need to respect the big dogs on the track instead of trying to compete with them! I understand stuff like this happens but both times by cars in lower classes trying to stand there ground when they should let the cars going that much faster, pass! BMW deserved this win, and it was stolen from them! BMW FTW.

With all the traffic etc they still do +/- 7 mins for the NS, starting at (take a look again at that youtube lap on page one please) 0:12/0:13 and ending at 7:15/16 more or less, that's more or less one lap of the Nordschleife excluding the GP Strecke...
