But a 2012 definitely wouldn't have HU_Entrynav, right? From what I was reading, it's found in F3x manufactured after 3/14 or 7/14. What's the trick to getting this to work? This has given me new hope of not having to go the Avin android route or dump $2700 on the Bimmertech 2017 retrofit.
Did a lot of reading back then when I installed this mate, but don't recall the requirements for 2014 make. here's what i do rem - I had the Hu_Entry (no Nav) and bought a complete kit that included the NBT (not NBT 2) HU. So essentially i replaced the HU to make this work with NBT. Now, in some of the newer cars (2014 and later) i rem reading some posts that long as you have an NBT unit, the installation of the 8.8 screen is even simpler and you don't need to replace the HU at all. But from what I understand, if you don't have NBT unit and land up buying one like me, I don't see a reason why you cant retrofit this install fairly easily.

Like I mentioned in my post, coding is the only thing I didnt do myself as the vendor who sold it to me on Ebay offered coding as part of the deal (he was pretty prompt and remote logged into my computer to do the heavy lifting )

Far as part list is concerned, heres all thats needed to make this work:

1) NBT headunit for F3x cars. (NBT)
2) NBT monitor for F3x cars
3) Video wire NBT to CID
4) New Style TouchPad controller (this was really important to me as the bigger dial with touchpad is simply awesome )

5) ECU unit for the TouchPad controller

6) PnP emulator with plug and play wires for microphone, touch ecu, and touch idrive. - This is the MOST important component as the its a wiring harness that makes things plug and play, really easy! The part that I received had very good quality insulated wires. Also the fact that it had ECU unit controller (item 5 above) and NBT emulator integrated in the harness which ensures no wires to be spliced manually.

7) Newest maps for your region (again, the 2016 maps are just awesome and this vendor gave me the activation code for free! )

8) Coding for your vehicle VIN number (Remotely done by the vendor, all you need is an internet connection and OBD-II Enet cable (item 9 below) which is also supplied by the vendor

9) ENET coding cable

10) USB cable for usb in the armrest. (Another plug and play wire supplied by the vendor which avoids the tedious process of trimming old usb connector pin and rotating it by 180 degree)

11) T20 (Torx 20 screwdriver) and car dashboard trim removal kit - NOT supplied by the vendor but can be bought off ebay in less than 20 bucks...

(mind it, i bought an NBT-1 and not NBT evo thats been sold at Bimmertech. Although NBT Evo looks really fancy with Idrive 6 interface, to me shelling out that much money was uncalled for, given how good Idrive 4 performs in the NBT-1 that I use. All NBT Evo has extra is touch screen interface and a fancier layout of icons on main screen - not worth double the price!!)

My eBay seller was Naviprof (the link to the item obviously has expired so cant share it) - I would highly recommend him as he supported the install well. Not a 5 star as there were delays at times due to time difference but overall support and part quality are impeccable.

Now a question for you is have you bought the ECU unit that the touch pad controller connects to before going to the main NBT? If you have then it should be a matter of rectifying the coding by an expert look into it.

P.S. My radio has been working absolutely fine with no separate arrangements done to fix it.
OK, this is odd....you mentioned you have HU_ENTRY yet you appear to have the old style CIC interface from the photos you showed in your original post.

I had an HU_CHAMP2 which is ancient and sadly the controller taps into the CAN bus instead of the CAN2 bus.

Bimmertech did the coding for me and enabled all the necessary functions, plus I also have the touch ECU and Y-cable.

The problem I have is the need to tap into pins 9 and 11 on the NBT main connector, however I really do want to avoid cutting, splicing or tapping OEM cables if possible!!

I do however have a Bimmertech audio harness so I'm thinking I could tap into this instead. Worst case scenario is I'll need to buy another harness if I fudge it up.

This is the harness I'm using. Any idea which would be pins 9 and 11 and I wonder if they have a plug on them as some of them do as you can see from the photo.

Just FYI, I may have found an excellent write-up by a member on this forum....

I think I'm going to be buying a soldering iron today and taking my car (again), apart this weekend....

Hey guys, currently attempting the nbt retrofit

Managed to get most things working, but the speakers dont work and the steering wheel doesnt seem functional (it calls when i press the phone button, but it just calls the last person i called instead of scrolling through contacts)

I also have a left over green flat head cable that i have no idea where it goes?

Any help would be appreciated!

The left over cable

Big thanks to AJ2206 for hooking me up with Naviprof

I got the NBT with the 10.25in display & touch controller, seller was top notch and the price is very very reasonable.

PM me if you want his contact

My Best guess is its a coding issue which should be a simple fix for someone from the coding section (try Shawn Sheridan)

Thx AJ2206! Found the code for tuning the sensitivity of the RLS online. Any coder around knows if this would do the trick?

Forgot to mention I also have the ASD bypass harness installed as well. Will the bypass throw off the auto day/night switching on the NBT by any chance?

So, tried this retro and failed round 1. Problems (Updated)

1. When I hooked up my Screen to the head unit (noob mistake here) I didnt know each connector was at a different angle. Since both sides fit either way, I plugged and rolled on. Only AFTER it was too late(Broke the connector) I changed them around and seen where I had them backwards. This matters so that the Main wire connector doesn't stick out PAST the headunit box. Making it not able to fit. Hopefully someone else doing this doesn't make the same mistake. If I hadnt of broke it, it would have been a simple swap and roll on. Word to the wise.

2. When installing your box, I suggest being very careful or put a towel down. This is to protect the plastics and trim from scratches(which i got a few small ones). Not a huge issue but you can always wrap your trim, or buy a new one if you damage them too bad.

3. The Seller sent me the wrong Head Unit (honest mistake) He overlooked that I had Sirius Radio, so the Harness Connector he sent me wouldn't work with the Sirius hook up as well. (Too close, impossible to hook up both)

However, the sellers communication is wonderful (even with time difference). He admitted to the mistake and is shipping me the correct head unit with a new Screen Wire Connector as well. (Thanks to Navipro)

Once I get the new Box, I'll install it, we will do the coding and I'll let everyone know how mine went in my F32.

The only question I have is the leftover Green Pin which SJ000 said was the MIC pin. Is this needed or can the original MIC not still work?

However, did you get the touch controller working? It looks like you had the CHAMP2 HU originally which is the same as me, but I've not managed to get my touch controller working yet. I know I have to connect it to the CAN2 but I've no idea how to do it.

Any detailed instructions would be MASSIVELY appreciated so I can complete my set-up.

Also, how is your radio? The old CHAMP2 unit doesn't use the diversity antenna so you might find your FM radio is a bit crap. I've ordered a diversity antenna and cable from eBay so as soon as those arrive, I'll get it all installed. I've heard it's all plug and play and quite simple to do so fingers crossed it all works!
I upgraded from hu entry to nbt and the radio worked perfectly.

However hu business nav to nbt was a different matter..

Update.

Mine is fully installed and working. Video in motion. Split screen. BMW Apps. USB and music from it. Sports Displays. All kinds of new features from my CIC 6.6. Sirius.

Only thing currently not working is the extended office. When we turn that on, telephone goes away. So still trying to figure how to get the office + telephone at the same time.

Also non of my vehicles status will update. Everything stays blank like Time, Date, Fuel consumption, trip meter, etc etc.

Update Still as of 8/8

Not Working:
1. Trip Info
2. Onboard Info
3. BlueTooth Mic (Not working) Anyone else have this issue? Sound comes through and bluetooth works, but the MIC does not. I have the cord coming from the NBT to the Mic in the headliner.
4. Vehicle information gone (Vehicle picture not showing up or the info)
5. Still need Video in Motion
6. Extended Office wouldn't work, kept removing Telephone. He was going to go back and investigate some more on a trial system
7. Cluster and Radio not fully communicating
8. Losing Time and Date every time I shut off my car, and turn it back on. Time never updating on the Screen from NBT or the Cluster.
9. Service records (lost currently) but it sounds like I Can go the dealer and they will update it for me?
10. Internet
11. Eco-Systems not showing the picture or diagrams

I know that seems like a lot, (it is) but

Working:
Sound
M-Logo turn on screen
Enhanced Bluetooth (just not the Mic)
Radio
Sirius
USB port now plays music and with Album Art
DVD/CD player (Watch movies on my lunch.)
Touch iController
BMW Apps
Split Screen

The only thing Im really worried about is the Blue Tooth Mic. Not sure why its not working.......
