Why doesn't the base 328i sport's back seats lay down?

Seriously, this is ridiculous. I bought a 2012 328i sport back in April and you can't put the back seats down. I never thought to ask about it when I purchased the car because I just assumed in this day and age you would be able to put the back seats down on any car.

I never needed to put them down before, but today I tried to put my fishing poles in my car for Thanksgiving and had a rude awakening.

LOL. I'm not laughing at you, instead I'm laughing at picturing a grown man putting fishing poles in a car...then slowly realizing - seats don't move.

the e90 also didn't have fold down seats as a standard option. that option has come with the cold weather package for a while, not sure how long. it is strange.

Fold down seats are standard on the 2013. Some pretty nice cars, like the Acura TL and Infiniti G, still don't have fold down seats, which seems odd to me.

Never assume anything is standard on a German car...

That doesn't make sense. I'd guess every Hyundai would have fold down rear seats.

So, I checked it. According to www.bmwusa.com, if you download the 3-Series brochure for standard and optional equipment, you'll see every 3-series model has the split fold-down through-load rear seats.

See page 4.

<edit> I didn't check the 2012, but the 2013. Sorry. That's messed up.

They added folding rear seats for 2013, 2012 they were an option. Glad I have them they are so useful at times.

they aren't standard on the C class either. have to get the premium package. in fact for a while you had to get premium 2 package on benzes. at least BMW for 2012 had it as an a la carte option.

this is one of those really stupid,, why is this not standard type options.

I am in Canada, have 2012 328 sport, delivered march 2012, and I have rear folding options. For what it's worth, they fold with two levers activated from the trunk, they ate located on roof of the trunk.

Silly question, where exactly are the 2 levers in the roof df the trunk....I looked last week in my 335xdrive and couldn't find the levers and just looked again and I couldn't see them.....I know they must be there because I can see the separation of the seats from the trunk but I don't see the levers.

It's just under the rear speaker shelf, trunk side...bend over, stare at the seats, and you'll see them top left and right near the hinges....can't miss it, little seat icon on it.

The Lexus IS cars don't have split folding rear seats either, not even as an option like with the F30. It's one of the reasons why we didn't get a Lexus. Never assume. (We have a 2013 which, as stated above, fortunately comes with them standard.)

if its not an option usually its because the car is designed around not having folding seats. increased structural rigidity and 1 less rattle.

though in a sedan you'd expect them to design it in, since well sedans are supposed to be practical.

Agree on the first point, plus not everyone wants the fold down seat.

Second point, practical...? That is the job of the wagon.

It's one of those, "where in the world is it!?", until you see it, then you're like "duh, how did I miss that??".

But he did a good job as explaining where they are, kinda have to put your head in the trunk and look up since they're pretty small and right under the speakers.

That is so funny.......I looked at it on Monday night in the garage and just couldn't see it and was thinking maybe they forgot to install them in my car at the factory. I looked again today in the daylight and it was staring at me right in front of my eyes .....
