Do you have to buy the JB4 stage 1 module first, and then the JB4 stage 2 add on or is there a stage 2 package you can buy that is ready to go? I looked at the link Terry sent me and it seemed the stage 2 was just an add on to a stage 1 you had to buy first?

To reward Stage1 owners they will only be offering it as a separate upgrade kit. At least for the first few months.

Well there goes my idea. I wanted the simplicity of a single kit and have been waiting for the stage 2 to be released. You're saying I'd need to wait another couple months?

Quickly order the stage one now. Only takes a few days to arrive. I got mine in about 3.

If you email Terry I'm sure he would just charge you the price of the stage 1 + stage 2 upgrade and mail it to you all together...

That's what I was thinking about doing. I just though it was still in testing.

Seemed no dice. I emailed him and he basically said they're only doing upgrades right now. Looks like he wants it done separately...

I'll probably order the stage 1 tomorrow then stage 2 after I hook it up I guess.

It looks like the stage 2 requires some splicing via quick connect into CAN wires. How does that increase the difficulty in removal for any warranty work / dealer visits?

Good question.

I tried to figure that out by looking at Terry's instruction PDF, but once again his instructions need to be deciphered by an astrophysicist.

removability is paramount for me, and it's probably the reason i'm staying away from Stage 2.

SpydeyPM installed it apparently....

Quite a few have installed it on the 'JB4' boards and some on here. I'm thinking it wouldn't the THAT difficult to uninstall, the issue would be that it would be obvious that you connected something to those wires when you disconnect due to the splicing. Probably need to throw some electrical tape over them at the very least.

"No BMW warranty man, I didn't install a piggyback, I merely removed the plastic off those particular wires by accident."

Got my stage 1 & 2 in today, hoping to get it installed tonight and get a dyno tomorrow. I plan to install the downpipe within the next couple weeks.

Dyno before downpipe sounds great!

Hey, I did. Took me a while to understand the PDF file. I had help from an electrician and as soon as he saw the connectors and the kit, he was able to help me understand the PDF better. The actual doing of the installation is not that difficult. It's the understanding of how to start that's a bit tough. No splicing of the wires required as the quick connectors will take care of it for you. Uninstalling would be more complicated than stage 1. Off the top of my head I can think of 4 more connections you need to disconnect than stage 1. And yes I would assume I would need to use electrical tape to cover the parts of the CAN wires that I had made connections on. During my installation I actually identified couple same colored CAN wires and had to match the connections best to my guess with the picture Terry had posted. Please feel free to PM me if you want to try to do it. I'm not 100% sure that I did it correctly but no CEL and I feel the power difference.

While my electrical engineering degree by no means makes me an expert on anything, the instructions leave much to be desired. I think part of that is due to the fact that the F30 instructions basically refer to the similar 5 series, so no true instructions for our cars, but the others seem to be close enough.

The rest is there are plenty of assumptions on where things are and what they are within the engine bay along with the wires. While extremely simplistic once you've done it once and can identify each connection, the pictures are pretty hard to decipher for a first timer with limited knowledge of the particular car. Maybe duplicate pictures of each connection before/after from alternate angles so one can be sure they're making the right one would help a ton.

When I install mine I'll try to see if I can identify the connections for the F30 a bit through pictures for anyone who wants it. I'm betting it's a breeze to install but the complications come in second guessing yourself when you're trying to identify what goes where.
