Do I need 18" winter tires if my 2013 335xDrive has the M-Brakes and M-Adaptive suspension or will 17" fit?

^ I believe you do. 17" will not clear the brake caliper. But you should double check with dealer to confirm. I would go with 18" just to be on the safe side.

You need 18 inch wheels to clear the brakes with the M-Brake package.

Nice thread guys, driving my 2nd bimmer in winter for the first time. I will surely invest on winter tires, I'm just contemplating on blizzaks lm-60 for now. Anyone driving the winters with their car lowered?

I'm running a set of Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2 ZP (runflats) on my car. I was fortunate that I was able to reuse the 17 inch style 162 reps from my old E90. Just got the tires last December when I got my F30 and was quite happy with them throughout last winter.

I'm planning to buy a set of OEM rims for winter from the US and they come with TPMS. However, from what I've read, Canadian cars use FTM instead.

So I have two questions:

1. If I run the TPMS on my winter rims, am I going to need programming done by the dealer every time I swap rims? (going from FTM in summer => TPMS in winter etc.)

2. If I don't use the TPMS and I leave FTM on my summer rims, I assume I would get a warning on the dash? any other consequences of doing so? (going from FTM in summer => no sensors in winter)

I just spec'd out a package on Tire Rack and the shipping and duty kinda killed the deal... gonna check with Allen at Simply Tire to see if they can do better

I got some prices from Allen today and they're pretty decent so I'll most likely be going with these guys.

Anyone here have experience with Simply's BMW replica rims? How's the quality? Should I spring more for something like Avant Garde?

AG + Forgestars wheels are hit & miss in quality and finishes. If you wander over the E90 forum and even F10 forum's wheels & tires subsection, there are people got vibration from these kind of wheels, even though they are supposed to be hub centric. Do note these wheels are still NOT 100% hub centric and there is a tiny centre bore mm difference compared to stock spec. There are no hub ring that can be installed to fix the difference. Just to be aware.

Cdn cars use indirect flat tire sensor which is built into the ABS braking system. Thus no need for the tpms sensor that is put inside the wheel.

The proof is if you see a metal (grey color) valve stem on your wheel, then it has tpms installed inside the wheel, if you see regular yellow valve stem, then no tpms inside the wheel.

US cars still use the tpms inside the wheel as mandated by US government. The con is obviously cost more and the tpms + the tpms receiver often fail, thus costing more $ to fix if without warranty

Most of the replicas, esp. no brand names are made in China, Thailand, Taiwan these days and that's why you can buy a set for around $600 or so. The often mentioned brand names, such as AG, VMR, Forgestars, etc will cost about $1000 or so.

In terms of what is recommended is hard for me to suggest because wheels are extremely personal in terms of taste & styling. Allen of Simply Tire can suggest to you and sell anything you want but quality wise is no guarantee, I am sure if there are issues with the wheels, Allen will step up to the plate and try to resolve it to his best ability. That's another reason for buying locally so at least you have someone with deal with it, rather than speaking/writing to somebody over the internet and you have no clues when they will answer you back.

I've been running the same set of replica wheels for about 5 winters now with no issues. Picked up my set from Joy City tires in Markham http://www.joycitytires.com/ and found they had the best prices in the GTA back when I originally bought them.

I plan on using the same rims and just switching the tires, would it be a bad idea to run a staggered winter set up. This way I won't have to buy extra rims, and can either buy a set of summer rims next year or just pay the 200$ tire change fee every year, what you guys think?

By the way, Pirelli Sottozero II RFT 1600$ from tirerack or 2300$ from my local KalTire.
