I picked my car up on 24 Dec and it had 2013-2 maps. I successfully updated mine without code to 2014-1 so it looks like there is a grace period where you don't need a code. Also I used one 64gb micro sd with a usb adapter. Also if the car turns off or goes into sleep mode it, take the memory card out and reinsert. It will go through the asking you to update screen but will resume at the percentage where it shut down. I had a minor sense of humour failure the first time it shut off, but was ok when I found this out lol.

Just checked mine today and it's 2013-2, despite me asking the dealer to make sure 2014-1 was installed.

How long ago was that? Apparently after a couple of days it asks for a code again???

Help!

So, having posted all was well with my 2014-1 update, I had an interesting issue this morning (first real use since update).

All seemed well until I got onto the M60 when all the roads disappeared .

If I zoomed out to 900 yds, they re-appeared and clearly the sat nav knows they are there because it gives correct directions, but no sign of them on the display! All other aspects of the map are there: water, train tracks, rivers, buildings etc, just no roads...

Probably corrupted files but all very odd. Any ideas?

was this at any zoom other than 900 yards?

When did you apply the update?

What build date is your car?

Did you need a code?

Have you tried e-mailing the contact in the instructions?

Which part of the M60 was it? as i have the update and had no issues while driving from Liverpool (M6/M62/M60) to Stockport this morning (zoom was around 125/175 yards)?

If it continues i guess you will need to look into either a downgrade or re-patch (but i have no idea how you would do either)

Maybe the maps we are downloading contain missing information???? (i don't think there is a roll-back either)

You could leave it a while and take into the dealers and claim you did nothing and see if they fix it?

That's a worry, I'm in Manchester in a couple of weeks so I will check however in the meantime, which junctions? I'll zoom in on my map to have a look.

That was on Friday morning. I can see another sense of humour failure looming if it does!! I go into hospital for an op tomorrow and the missus will be driving. Problem is it is on the other side of London and really need nav to get there. Also if they keep me in she'll have to go home alone and pick me up next day. Better Keep the TomTom handy lol

Hi Mark,

It's M60 junctions 7 to 12 but it looks like all roads have disappeared for me. My own road was there when i started out this morning but somewhere around Sale Water Park the motorway (and all roads) disappeared when zoomed in closer than 900 yards. At 900 yards and further away, they are all there. It's very odd and probably some sort of corrupt file. I'll wait for a cold restart of the sat nav and hope that clears it. Otherwise I'll download them again and try another install.

Other than that, it's back to the dealers for a spanking!

I've checked mine and I can zoom all the way in to the Trafford Centre, including the perimeter road at 25yds.

Hopefully yours will sort itself out, good luck.

South America ?

Do you guys know if there is any updated map for South America ?

Last month this crappy BMW navi made me drive for 200km more than I should because I'd didn't recognize a road. Wen a i realized it was too late. Now I don't trust it and aways have to use google maps in parallel.

Regarding the code generation, I don't think that they are accessing BMW portal, IMO they just cracked the algorithm that generates these codes using the vin. Usually it just makes a series of mathematics to the vin and another number comes out.

Without going into specifics, the code generation requires a navi enabler code (00DE0001 or 001B0001). You either get this from the vehicle with e-Sys/SWID or download it from the portal. If the person selling you the code does not ask for the file from the vehicle, they have access to the BMW after sales portal.

OK thanks for checking. It sounds like a corrupted file, perhaps during installation. I'll try re-installing the files I have during a long journey so it doesn't get interrupted.

Thank again

I'll answer best I can...

When did you apply the update? 04/01/14

What build date is your car? June 2013

Did you need a code? Yes - got it from BMW Navi

Have you tried e-mailing the contact in the instructions? Not yet but will do, though it seems to be fine for others so far.

Maybe the maps we are downloading contain missing information???? (i don't think there is a roll-back either) Where did you get yours from? I got mine from the links posted here and used micro-torrent to download.

You could leave it a while and take into the dealers and claim you did nothing and see if they fix it? I think they will spot 2014-1 maps in a 2013 car...

I had an issue last week where the sat nav thought I was somewhere off the coast of North-West Africa in the sea.

No idea how that happened. I held the volume button down for 30 secs to reboot the NBT and it picked up where I actually was.

Ha ha - well it's not that bad. It knows exactly where I am, just in days before the road network was invented!

My car was built on 6-Dec-13 and when I picked it up on 30-Dec-13 I noticed it has 2013-2 installed. I have asked the dealer if I could get an update to 2014 and this was their response:

Quote:
Apparently there are 2 software updates available each year and the 2014 update is not available until May/June 2014.

Your vehicle has the most "up-to-date" version.
Where are you guys getting 2014-1 from?

They're talking crap....

See here

I will absolutely reject my car if it doesn't come with the latest maps. It's a total nonsense that a vehicle with such an expensive nav system is delivered with out of date maps.

The dealer is misinformed. Tell them the part number is 65902350335 for the 2014-1 update code and 65902350336 for the USB stick with the 2014-1 map.

I think bmw should offer free check and update of nav software every time you have a service with them. Helps differentiate their service and keeps you using them longer.

Further update... As I came off the M60 towards home, all the roads came back! Will they remain or disappear again tomorrow? I'll let you all know.
