M4, it's a coupe! Has a carbon boot! Doesn't have a cheap looking after market spoiler from an M235i. It's a coupe. Once I saw them side by side at a dealers ( and if you really don't need saloon practicality) there was a clear winner for me. Also it's not several thousand dearer the saloon version like the 4 vs 3 is actually but likely just because of the spec of the kit. It's a coupe.

Yup but in my M4, takes stuff to the tip, takes family everywhere I need to go, takes 4 full sized bikes on the roof, roof box if needed, only thing for me the M3 has that's more practical is the 5th seat. My kids are 10 and 8 so perfect for getting in and out the back, lack of rear doors no problem. M3 is more practical absolutley, but suggesting an M4 and of course the 4 series in general is not is not true.

6 series is a bit different as the 6GC is 20cm longer than the coupe. 4GC is exactly the same length as the coupe.

Heh he, I followed a black M3 the other day, and I couldn't get Darth Vaders helmet out of my mind, those flared arches

Same here.

I want a M4 but I'm a sucker for practicality.

I tend to open the window in my 4 series then exit when in a tight space.
Makes it easier for me cos i am on the heavy side.

My old 135i had the windows drop down 1/2 way then go up again once the door was shut just for this purpose. Very handy it was too. Doesn't the 4 do this?

Oh & M3 for me. Looks so much more M than the 4 which looks like any other 4 when parked next to it.

No, but a black M3 with privacy glass....from the back looks like one big helmet.

As a mentioned in the black wheel thread the other week .... seems nearly all M3/M4s are ordered with black wheels.

For those who need scaffolding mounted rear wings, their is the M4 GTS concept.

I'm a big fan of the M3 - more ordinary somehow equals more special!

Not sure that I kind of get the M3 and M4 now... They are not race cars and M is not BMW Motorsport anymore... So you are not buying a Motorsport car... But an 'M' car... and our M Sports get 'M' branding now...

Of the two, I would have the M3 over and M4 for just the same reasons I now have a 3 and not a 4... The extra doors...

If I was looking at M4 then I (personally) would be only considering 2-seats and so would consider Cayman or Boxster etc... If you buy an M4 because you don't need 4 seats except for possibly on the odd occasion, maybe, then you are simply limiting your options... Want 4 seats, go M3...

Back to the desire, though... I am not sure, day-to-day, an M3 would be any better for me all round than the 330d I have now... For the £20k plus extra, no way would it... So would I be just having it for a (perceived) status?

I have done Boxster S and Cayman S, both fine cars, excellent performers, and very well balanced... I have done GT3, and an M4 would have to be something really special to get close to that experience/capability... GT4, I understand, out performs GT3 dynamically but has not enough grunt to out drag it (so cannot compete on overall lap time... but corner speeds are higher..)... But you probably cannot get a GT4, so a moot point...

M2 might be my cup of tea... But will that be worth the extra over the M235i..???

Hmmmm....

added to say that I know M2 suffers same problem as lack of doors vrs M4 in my rationale...
