Why does ConnectedDrive app for Android suck so bad?
im really furious at how bad the ConnectedDrive app is for android.
its great on the iPhone...nicely integrated.......yet they cant even get it working on the android? they pushed a new update this week which specifically states its going to work for only the Galaxy S4 and some other phone........AND THEY COULDNT EVEN GET THAT RIGHT! i downloaded it and the installer gave me errors....i had to uninstall the old version and install the new version then i go to plug it into my car......and it doesnt connect. its a little annoying, theres no reason why it shouldnt work

Make the phone and iOS If there's a problem, it's a one stop shop for BMW Android: Countless manufacturers Countless versions of the OS out there If there's a problem, they have to go to carriers pushing out the updates to the OS and then to the phone manufacturers. What's easier? |

you're right. so BMW decided to focus on making it work for 2 phones......the S4 and Nexus 4. The update log even says "Technical considerations limit vehicle compatibility to the following smartphones for the time being: Samsung Galaxy S4 and LG Nexus 4. Compatibility with other compatible Android smartphones will be available soon."
I have an S4......the app was designed to work with the S4........WHY IS IT NOT WORKING! i wasnt upset when they didnt have the app for android......and then the app came out and it didnt work....i was annoyed. but now im furious that they specifically designed it FOR the S4...and it doesnt work. thats just poor

All this fuss over a damn phone that most people don't actually talk vocally on. Glad I don't own a "smartphone" and I never will. Seems like people are suffering from connectivity addiction these days, which seems to be far too high on their priority list.
After 43 years in IT, it's easy for me to understand the complexities of today's technology and how difficult it is to achieve compatibility across so many devices and software versions. Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) is the big thing now at corporations, and (in my case) dealing with the security implications alone is mind-boggling. Best not to be so co-dependent on a gadget (from my perspective). Rejoice in the fact that you own one of the world's best automobiles and stop fretting about a gadget that will be obsolete before your next oil change.

What are the added functions of this app once it is working? Have an S4 but never really messed with the connected drive app. Didn't seem to have any added benefit, but maybe I just don't know enough about it.

TBH i am guessing this is down to the S4 and not BMW. Hands down this is the worst phone i have owned every update seems to fook-up another feature, the battery life sucks i could go on and on.
Android need to stop allowing phone manufactures to change the OS and simple have one OS version out in the wild. I am a massive apple hater but after getting a free android tablet (Galaxy Tab 10.1) with my TV and after two days giving it away as it was the biggest pile of carp i have used. I then decided to buy an ipad (my first apple product) and annoyingly it just works and works well. I am actually considering getting an iphone although the screen is smaller it will integrate with my car better and i will final get away from android (which is IMO is terrible at the moment). Hopefully Microsoft can sort out there OS and i will swap to that. If you really need the features i would suggest that an iphone would be the best option as even if BMW get it working the rate at which the S4 seems to get updates and patches i am guessing it will be short lived. |

If BMW says that the APP should work with Galaxy S4, then they better be sure that it works before releasing it. The issue here has nothing to do with Android, IOS, the S4 or the iPhone. It is about developing quality software. Many of the best apps are developed for both platforms. BMW, a global company with premier products, can and should do better. |
