From the front it looks like a character from the movie Cars.

A little overwrought in general. Too busy, too fussy.

Polarizing though - which anything that pushes the envelope should be.

The grill is truly hideous. Almost so deep as to be audi-esque.

The unknown thing about CSL Hommage is that it uses a variation of the Power eDrive drivetrain which could find its way into a another BMW M model as in this guise it has up to 560PS. Fit this within an M car and not only would be dynamic and lightweight.,but also innovative and efficient.

Aha now that video helps. I think real world wing mirrors would make it a little more real to me. Looking very fine indeed now!

Shock over, I love it!

I just want to remind everybody what this concept stands for. Some of you are not getting the car/idea behind it as I saw some posts questioning the color and styling (and kidneys).

I saw the original 3.0 CSL yesterday so I just want to share a quick iPhone shot with you.

I must say that your review is very generous and I do also like some of the features of the vehicle. But since you have covered that nicely let me HATE on it just a little.

1. The hood (bonnet), well it looks like a cross between a BMW and a Star Wars starfighter. I am waiting for those wings to pop out and it to take flight sending out missiles of light trying to defeat the Dark Side.
2. What is with the double fin in the back. It looks like a kid with a rice rocket (in my city this could refer to an Oldsmobile Cutlass, Buick Skylark or anything that looks like it qualifies as a hooopty) added it as an after thought.
3. Why would anyone build a vehicle that blurs the lines like this? I mean some lines on this vehicle look like they made a very good attempt to build a sleek, racey looking vehicle. Then it looks like they just wanted to add a few extra panels to it but instead of staying with a sleek design they decided to used rounded panels instead. Kind of like they ran out of i8 panels.
4. Oh and those kidneys. Have you ever heard of Flavor Flav? If you just added a hour and minute hand you are all set.
5. Speaking of Flavor Flav, the splitter, just under the kidneys, looks like it has his "grill" (golden teeth for those who don't know what im talking about)

I must say that this whole car leaves me a bit confused. But just so that I said it, I reserve the right to change my mind on this as anytime. It has just not happened yet.

Nice pics of that 3.0 CSL at Klassikstadt in Frankfurt.

Maybe people just don't get the color bc they are too young to remember(or know!) that is a classic BMW color(Golf Yellow).

That would be the better impression to compare the CSL Hommage with as they both share similar ideas in terms of body kit and race for the road stance and appearance.

Thank you for sharing,
Not a really big fan but i respect the classic design cues hidden in it.

Question is when?

After looking at these pictures, among others, it's not the color that doesn't sit well with me but the design. The side profile is decent looking, as I find most modern BMW's are, however the front is especially horrible. The back isn't great but is largely overshadowed by that horrendous front end.

It seems as thought most front ends on modern BMW's are getting worse as time goes on. I fell that the F1X series was the last good iteration. The new 3, F3X, and so on have ugly hood lines and headlight/grill areas. They are just truly unattractive. Most people will generally accept design over time because there is nothing they can do about it but I simply can't stand the direction they are moving with the cartoon sized grills and the lights that touch them.

Hope this reaction to this is a shot across the bow for the design team...

Entry to the Concours d’Elegance is about ~25 euros per person.

There are two main events: Villa d’Este and the grand exhibition space of Villa Erbe (where the Art Cars were this year along with RM Auction cars and bikes and classic cars from the BMW Museum collection. Both are MUST SEE's for any car lover.

Everyone should go see Lake Como at least once in their life. This is a great location for this event! There is a reason why George Clooney decided to live here!

BMW AG(Classic) have been running this car show for the last fourteen years. Hats off to BMW Classic for putting on(and managing) such a great car show!!

A trip South of the Alps is just what Dackel recommends! This year on my way back North to Germany... I decided to drive the Splügen Pass(CH)... it was a great choice to wind down a wonderful weekend away!

I think this car is a waste of time. Regardless of whether people like or hate the design, this is not the design language of future BMW cars. So this is an exercise in irrelevance.
