BMW Assist + Apps, worth it??

I am a huge Apple / Technology / Gadget fan...but I am not excited about spending $900 for BMW Apps + Assist? Here me out, and tell me your thoughts.
  • I can care less about the BMW Assist Safety plan.
  • Streaming Bluetooth Audio from my iPhone sounds ok, but that is what my spare 30GB iPod is for, via the iPod cable (FREE in the F30).
  • Streaming Pandora when I have Sirius and a plugged in iPod?
  • FaceBook and Twitter, that is a joke right..or I am getting old?

Does it come FREE with the snap in iPhone charger?

What am I missing?

Fully agreed. I'm a huge techie and fully loaded my 335i with everything other than cold weather (California), parking assistant (I can parallel park myself) And Apps/Assist. Pass on it.

I do need a little more info actually. When the iPhone is plugged into its tray thing in the centre console (does the car come with that for iPhone?) what can I do with it and how does the iDrive display it? Can I look through all its music on the iDrive? Will it import all its contact without Bluetooth?

I think it is a neat feature I have Pandora show up on the screen along with Internet radio. I may forgoe the Sirius when the trial expires. I also like the fact that there is yelp and more apps coming along.

Facebook and Twitter are not selling points for me, but the rest is. it's tough because I went back and forth OB different options and this is one I kept coming back to along with the technology package.

I skipped premium in my 335i to get technology and premium sound.

Does it worth? Well, here you go if you haven't seen this.

With Siri, sky is the limit.

Apps were $250 on my 335d. Probably not worth it but car was on dealer's lot. Pandora and web radio are nice but its kind of a pain that they have to be launched on the iphone. I use a touch tethered to my droid phone.

To me the Apps and Assist are borderline worthless and clearly overpriced. Just plug in your iPhone, with which you can listen to either your iTunes music OR Pandora, and DRIVE. I can't believe that they charge for this, but clearly it is a cash cow. It's functionality is probably already resident in the hardware, and the incredibly expensive purchase flips a switch in software to enable them. That's just a guess...

True to some extent, but with Assist they put in a SIM card and pay for some amount of airtime for the connected features.

BTW, Assist is required to enable feature that allows you to send addresses from Google maps to the Nav system.
