Its Only Down Hill From Here
I enjoyed owning a car with less than 100,000 miles for a bit. All my cars before this were over 170,000 so I still have awhile to go.

Belt tensioner is very noisey, and when I did an oil change today and listened to the car with the oil cap off, it made it sound like a rod was about to go through the block. I think it was just oil going through the system and was dry in one area at initial startup.
And when I had the fuel pump serviced the dealer threw it up on the lift for me and I can see a very minor oil pan gasket leak next to the catalytic converter. I wonder if wrapping the cat or an aluminum heat shield barrier would prevent that from happening. I am still trying to get use to what normal noises with this engine. I have never dealt witj DI turbo engines before. |

Would love to have bought new and get a manual but I am the 2nd owner and bought at 90,000. But I was fine with buying "high" mileage BMW since every car I have owned has stranded me at least once, except for my BMWs. I do still worry that this car is still expensive to replace major parts if they do break.

100k is like turning 40, all downhill afterwards.
Luckily mine is still young. |

I will say this, I have heard on hear a lot people struggle to get good gas mileage. The 27.9 is probably the worst I have had with a lot of spirited driving the weekend before and a considerable amount of life taken out of the tires. I guess It helps I live in the country and work in a city of only 60,000 but I still have my fair share of stops on my commute.

It just all comes down to maintenence with these. My E39, the only out of maintenence items replaced according to the records I had back to 2005 was the ABS unit and the entire driveshaft. Everything else was normal maintence. I trust this brand to make a solid car, now its up to the owner to keep it that way.
