Useless beeping
I wonder if anyone else has been annoyed by this, and if there is any way to avoid it.
So I pull in to a parking space, and go forward until I am a few inches from the cement wall. No problem. No warnings. I lock up, exit, and come back later. I start the car, no problem. I shift into reverse, and get a huge beeeeeeeep. I look behind me, and there is nothing. It's still beeeeeeping, so I double check. Then I see on the screen that it is saying that I am close to the wall. Well, duh. I'm in reverse, so who cares? But it continues to beeeeeep as I back up, even though the back of my car is clear of obstructions. Why should it complain about objects in front of me if I am in reverse? If I change to a forward gear, then sure, beep at me. But reverse? It's pointless and misleading. |

The tone of the warnings are different front /rear sensors. Yeah I understand it's noise you may not like but it's helpful for parallel parking and other scenarios.
It's there to help, code it out if you don't want it. |

It's so when you are backing up and turning you don't accidentally hit the car next to you. Sometimes people are so focused on reversing that they forget the front still sways.

I hear it every morning when I'm backing out of my garage, so I can understand what the OP is talking about. I know it's there to make sure you don't back up into anything or turn and hit anything on the side, but it would be nice to have the front sensors silenced when in reverse for those in areas where parallel parking is not very common. I've also lowered the volume as low as it will go and it's still a bit annoying. Would be nice to get the volume even lower.

The front proximity sensors will beep when inching forward too if you activate them manually with the button next to the shifter.

When I'm pulling into a space that has an object in the front, like a wall or barrier, I manually engage the rear camera/PDC so that I know when I'm as close to it as I want to be. That's one foot, so one foot is the range that I have the warning tone set to go from intermittent to constant. If the default warning tone is too loud the volume of the PDC signal tone can be adjusted similar to the sound and volume settings of the radio. |

Never tried it myself, but logically you'd pull up close enough to something to have the alarm sound, then turn the volume down with the steering wheel volume control.

I do believe that the PDC volume can be adjusted manually - it can be done on the X3 so I don't see why it wouldn't be the same.
Alternatively, can you not just push the front PDC button by the shifter to deactivate the front sensors? |

right, the ironic part about park distance control is that the car has no idea you're parking when you're in a forward gear. so the parking sensors only work automatically when you're in reverse. i typically back into parking spaces (it's way safer and as a side bonus looks cooler). i have it set up so that if i press the park button it turns on the park sensors and the surround view camera which makes backing into a parking spot super easy. if i put the car in reverse without pressing the park button, the back up camera turns on along with the sensors.

The ratio of the PDC signal tone volume to the entertainment volume can be adjusted.
Using iDrive: 1. "My Vehicle" 2. "iDrive settings" 3. "Tone" 4. "Volume settings" 5. "PDC" 6. Set the desired value. The setting is stored for the driver profile currently used. |

I was always confused why previously BMWs only activated PDC when backing up but I realized that it's much easier to judge the front of the car than the rear. If you really need it, you can just enable it automatically. |

It also lets you know that some dufus pulled in close and rubbed your bumper.
An FYI (not sure if you noticed this), is whatever sensor detects proximity, the sound comes from the portion of the sound system (so rear right for the rear right bumper sensor for example). Super handy... |

I don't think it is. I've looked at some of the coding cheat sheets out there and none have mentioned it. I will say it does help if you have a kid and they have their ride-on cars and tricycles in the way.

yes its annoying in that it starts beeping like crazy way before you are close to hitting anything. I generally like the driver assist pkg though but yeah, annoying
