I'm glad it's the Limeys that have the sense of humour on this thread. I may have a large family and lots of sh*t to carry round, but I'd rather have my nipples blow torched off than buy a people carrier if I only had a wife and three children to ferry.

We are on a BMW forum right? Not mumsmet? 335/535 m sport touring then.

Honda odessey, hands down. we traded my wife's Acura MDX for it and haven't looked back. I am a car guy through and through, and didn't like the idea but it makes sense, drives well for what it is, gets decent mileage, better than any large suv for sure, and fits our 2 kids and stuff. we travel a lot and it's so convenient.

How about a nice X3? My wife has one. It's nice for a truck, even the pick up is good in sport.

If the wife wants 3 kids, you have to put them there, so I'm sure you'll figure out how to only go with 2 maybe. Kidding, after the first and she sees the cost and sacrifices, she may come down to 2.

The problem with this set up is when you move over from the car seat to the booster seat, and you have to fasten the seat belt. The other chairs will get in the way. I currently have 2 seats in my car, left and right.

Living abroad in a major city and using taxi's to get everywhere with our kids, we got use to only bringing the essentials when we travelled. So when we moved back, we didn't see the need to go big. (At least mini van size big). We got a f30 and have been happy with the space. I sat in the back seat (6') and I was comfortable back there. I'm sure the car will suffice for the next 5-10 years.

I currently have 2 of them installed in my F30, placed center and to one side. That means there is still room for an adult to sit in the back (it's not exactly the most comfortable place to be in the car, as you can imagine, but it works in a pinch). I'm pretty sure I could fit a third seat in that space, since the middle seat is currently centered.

The seat works for rear-facing children from 5-45 lbs, forward-facing children from 20 - 80 lbs in a 5-point harness, then converts to a booster for children up to 120 lbs.

Another option is to get a Tesla P85D: you can put two kids "in the trunk" with the rear-facing seats option. That will let you drive the wife & 5 kids around in a car that does 0-60 in 3.0s - nearly as fast as the latest McLaren 675LT. Not bad for a minivan alternative, I'd say.

It's one of my favorite cars because it's the only car I've owned that I don't have to worry about. If it gets dirty? So what. If it gets a ding? So what. If the kids leave lollypops stuck to the carpets? So what. French fries in the car seats? So what.

There is something completely liberating about a "tool" car that you can just get in and drive without a care in the world. If you have kids, you need one of these. Forget about how it's not cool (it isn't). What's important is its safe, it's convenient, and it's what's best for your kids. Almost every BMW owner with kids I know has one.

I would have to say no, this is not necessary. Chevy Tahoe would be better IMHO

Here is the new Tahoe. I hear you on the power doors, as long as the kids have enough space that's all that matters

Think of the children.

To me, there is no status in an SUV. A truck is a truck. So if you're going to get a large vehicle with 6+ passenger seating, might as well get the one with the most convenience and that means a minivan.

Lol, and the 4 GC has status!!!! You are known around these parts for stating how high in stature the 428i GC gets you. And a Chevy Tahoe which can be had for over 60k btw has no status!! Your world is intriguing

I would have to give the nod to the dad in the Tahoe.

No one sees an American-made SUV and says "oh my God, so jealous, I have to have one". And the 1990s fad of SUV's portraying some rugged yuppie outdoorsman lifestyle are way over too.

You see a Chevy Tahoe, you think to yourself, "a blue collar guy who owns his own plumbing business and the truck is a write-off" as its the same vehicle driven by your lawn guy and your house painter as a workplace, just without the "Vinny The Plumber" door decals.

Like I said, your world in intriguing and I won't venture into it.

I wonder what people think when they see the lawn mower guy drop of his kids in a nice Chevy Tahoe next to your Honda Touring Elite.

Btw I thought owning your own business is the American Dream

my thoughts exactly, thinking a Tahoe is for plumbers is somewhere of an elitist bmw owner thought, most Tahoes cost more than a 335.

I don't even think it's elitist, it's ignorant

There's a difference between spending money on yourself and money on your business. One is truly out of your pocket, the other is on the government. Looking at it from a different angle:

A $60,000 Tahoe is a utility vehicle that can comfortably seat 7 people, it's $8,571 per person. Quite economical.

A $60,000 BMW is a sport sedan that can comforably seat 4 people, it's $15,000 per person. Quite frivolous.

Either way, the OP needs to consider a Minivan. For kids, it's the best solution.

I actually own a 2011 honda odyssey touring elite. Actually has a lot of nice features. Wide screen DVD player, 5.1 surround sound, hdmi input, blind spot warning, xenon headlamps, parking sensors all around.

Not the prettiest vehicle to look at. However it's very functional for both adults and the kids. I feel like a nerd driving it. But at the end of the day it offers too much convenience. And not joking when I forst got the minivan I was getting looks and questions left and right. Don't get that with my f30. Lol

I actually live this situation (sort of) daily. I have 3 kids (8,4,3months) and daily an f30. My wife has a q7 which we use on weekends etc when the entire family is going somewhere. However, we are both military so during the week we drive separately so my son (8) sits in the front of my car and the two younger kids in the back.. We actually tried 3 seats in the rear of a 750Li at the dealer and it didn't work so we ended up buying the Q7 which actually gets plenty of nods since I lowered it and put wheels on it lmao

Joe, you seriously can't be this arrogant and shallow can you? And you own a minivan and actually sound proud of it?

I hate Tahoes and most of its ilk, but, I'd take one in a heartbeat over a minivan.

Kids need comfort? Since when? Back in the day we stuffed brats in the back of a station wagon with a coloring book and told them to keep it down back there. Guess the inmates run the asylum in your home; suit yourself.

Please stop the grandiose statements. You sound like the loser who always wanted to be cool. A car can't make you "cool". You'd just be a lame with a nice car. You also don't become cool by putting people you think are beneath you down. That just makes you a douche.

I hope you're really a nice guy in real life, but you're sounding bad and that's a shame.
