Digital Cluster Coming to US 4 Series July 2017
My dealer just passed along this confirmation to me while I'm waiting on a production number for my 440i order. Sadly it looks like it'll be an additional cost, but i'll be adding it on to my build.

I'm not sure why you say that. There's been a lot of speculation here, but this is the first confirmation.
Thanks and great news OP! Do you know whether there's a revised order guide?

There are plenty of threads, including the one you just posted showing the digital dash.

^^Right. As you say, this is the first confirmation of the digital dash for the US market. Everything else has been guessing and hoping. I've already sent an email to my SA asking him to add it to my order, so it sure helps me out!

LOL, right?
That "New Car Smell"? (Option code 'NCS'): $495.00 but you have to have metallic paint ($700 option) and the Executive Package ($2250).

again, just responding to the speculation that it would be included with the executive package for free. a lot of people thought if they ordered with the executive package then it would just start popping up without warning whenever production started.

Call me old fashioned but I actually like the physical gauges.. unless of course I have something like an LFA and it's kind of required to have digital gauges. Nice option though.

I like the look of analog gauges but i like how much cleaner the digital cockpit looks with everything off, hence my vote to get the cluster but keep it in "comfort" all of the time.
plus with the extended contents version, my OCD is going crazy with how the actual digital portion is off center and doesn't cover the whole cluster area like the black finish implies. also, i'm still hopeful about software updates down the road that will make it more useful. |

I've read that touchscreen is being added in July as well, but I haven't seen an updated order guide and my dealer can't order it yet either. They told me to check again next week and if i get an allocation but the digital cockpit is added to the order guide, they'll resubmit my build with the digital cockpit added.

I'm currently driving a new 5 series loaner and spent the day with the digital display. It's nice, but nothing dramatically revolutionary that would make it a "must buy" option.

plus didn't the e46 have some wiring issues with the early LCI models with LED tails? but no one seems to be worried about the led tails his go around. i guess i'm just not worried about it because i think if there's any growing pain issues, it'll happen during the warranty period. or if it proves too problematic i'll just give it back after 3 years lol. i agree it's only for looks. not a lot of function out of it. but it's no different than msport which is primarily just a bumper package. at $350 we've paid more for looks. |

I wouldnt be surprised if all vehicles go this direction eventually. It is cheaper to make and update than the old mechanical electro versions. A few sensors and some copper wires and your all set.

I for one know that I will be ordering a new F32 6WB for my '17 F34 340i. For $65k, the fucking cluster should illuminate during the day ... cheap shit doesn't ... so i know this will solve that issue. I'm sure it will be ~$2k for the part though ... well worth it to hear the wife quit bitching about the gauges on her car

I've decided to order my new F36 with the analog gauges. While I do typically like new tech when it's avail, the digital version doesn't really do anything in this particular application that analog doesn't. Eco mode screen is useless to me because I'll never drive in Eco mode. Comfort mode looks just like analog. Sport is fine, but offers nothing I much care to see. I have concerns about the digital glare at night, something my eyes would be sensitive to. I don't equate digital to necessarily mean better quality...my analog watch cost far more than my digital did. HUD was the ultimate deciding factor; I probably won't be looking at my dash much anyhow.
I drove the new S5 Sportback w/ virtual cockpit, The big Google Maps display is excellent. If BMW offered that, I'd be in. They don't. I'm out. |
