Poor bluetooth sound quality

Whenever I stream audio via bluetooth, the quality sucks so bad. Have tired with Samsung Galaxy s2 and s5, both the same.

So I'm using Ipod with usb cable for now, but is it normal?

Bluetooth compresses audio to shit. Lower sound quality is to be expected...it's about as low as it gets compared to CD, USB, or even AUX.

I do however get some crackling at some frequencies lately, regardless of song or audio source, which is bugging me.

I really don't understand why so many people want bluetooth streaming then, and wants it coded etc...

It's completely useless if you are not more than half deff.
I guess it's not BMW's fault though.

For me, it's a matter of convenience. It's a lot of hassle to leave my phone in the armrest as sometimes I forget to take it out when I leave the car.

The better the soundsystem, the more youŽll notice the bad quality. Compared to the relatively good 320 kbits tracks on my USB, listening through the aux is like putting the HK in a shoe box. If you have the standard speakers, you wonŽt notice abig difference cause those speakers aint good enough to fairly play high quality tracks.
