Winter Shoes

Hi

I have a F30 330d on order with the 19" wheels from the Sport Plus package (i think they are the 403 but not sure). The stealer has quoted me £1,800 for some 18" wheels and tyres which is way too much.

What options do i have (Note i have the M Sport Braking not sure if this will limit my Wheel options).

I have seen a few F30' with the 5 spoke 18" wheels on which look really good IMO (not sure what they are called and if they will fit the car)

I think the 330D on 19" is on a staggered set-up , but i don't think i need to do this for the winter's?

I really need to try and get this sorted as i had an accident last year in my E92, and if i had of fitted winter tyres would more than likely been able to avoid it

What wheels should i look for (17" or 18") what part number?
Do i need staggered setup?
What make / type of winter tyres are the best
Do i need run-flat, or is it best to run with tyre weld in the boot?

What does everybody else have and how much did they cost, where did you get them from?

Thanks for any help you can give.

If you have the M Sport brakes your starting size is 18".

Last month I collected my winter wheels set from the Stealers. Paid 7% under list (£1,572 instead of £1,700). I got a set of 17" 413's shod with Pirelli W210 Sotto Zero RSC's 225/50 R17. Now they've bedding in I have no issues with them.

Hi,

Crap the stealer said the 17" wheels would fit. That means i am looking at £2,060.

Would be cheaper to rent / buy a small car for winter

Seriously, have a look at some of the previous threads on winter tyres. There are some huge long running ones. As the Capt says, you'll need 18". First thing is call your insurance company and see how they feel. Do they accept non OEM wheels?

Mine wanted to charge me extra so I negotiated with dealer to get set of 18" 397's. Quite liked the design and decided I'd get them over the normal M Sport 400M's.

I have square setup all round. You'll have a little less grip with square but if you were to use in really bad weather, square will be better. It's also cheaper!

I've got runflats as BMW supplied them. If I was going 3rd party, I'd have Michelin Alpin 3 non runflats.

Your problem is going to be finding something now as going by the other thread, demand is very high and both BMW and some of the tyre suppliers can't now deliver.

Check your insurance first and then delve through the threads - all the info you could ever want is there!

gtssussex may be right re availability.

I paid a £500 deposit on a set of 397s with Sottozeros on 14th October. They still haven't shown up.

My advice is whatever you decide to do, do it quick!

I ended up doing this.

Buying a delivery set of 400M's with summer tyres from a stealer for £1450. Theres been a few on ebay recently. The good lads at the stealer separated tyres from wheels before sending them to me.

I'm now flogging the summers on ebay to re-coup £500-£600 of that.

Ordered RFT Pirelli Sotto's staggered from Camskill for £905. Arrived a couple of weeks ago

So I reckon my net outlay will be around £1700. Its not cheap, but I wanted OEM wheels and RFT

I'll then expect to get 12000 miles and 3 winters out of them before selling them on. Not cheap, but neither is crashing into stuff when you cant stop.

All I need now is the bloody car

Definitely need 18" wheels. I bought the official BMW 415 wheels on ebay for £700 and for Pirelli Sottozero Runflats off eBay for £400 with 7mm of tread on them. Just need the car to fit them on now

I have been reading so many of these and coming from a front wheel drive to a new 330 D M Sport delivered this Friday ( oh yes, it will be mine!!). I have never used winter tyres as for the three to four days a year we have it, I stay home.

How much of a difference do they really make? Should I shell out the £ 1500 or just stay home?

I raced single seaters for a couple of seasons, so no slouch, but I bow to the greater experience of others.

Thanks in advance

Hi ,

Will the BMW Genuine Wheel Rim 18" Turbine styling 415 fit the F30? and if so will it also fit my current E92 330d Coupe Sept 2011 build date - it has 18" wheels but have no idea what they are, i am guessing thet will be the standard 18" ones????

As i could put them on my E92 while i wait for my new car which should be with me before XMAS but i am not holding my breath, probably more like the arse end of January as the build week is 48.

Thus i could make use of the new tyres straight away and simple swap them when i do the part ex

Thanks

Hi,

The link you posted does not seem to work!

Did you paint the wheels black??

NOTE: You got any more pictures of your car?? i ask as it is same car i have ordered (same colour, sun protection etc). Be nice to see some really world images of the F30 with EBII and sun protection glass pus the M Sport Plus pack.

Take it from me GET THE WINTER WHEELS, my incident would probably not have happened if i had put them on. But i did get some experience with BMW assist and have to say it is one of the best ever features of the car. They basically got me and the car home and a hire car sorted before my insurance had chance to do anything.

Got my 17" Pirellis on and I have to say I'm not massively impressed with the grip levels yet. I had Michelin Alpins non run flats on my E90 the last 2 winters and they were superb.

Yes you get 3 years I believe.
You have a drop down cover in the roof of the car hiding the s.o.s button

Sorry the link doesn't seem to work on a mobile device.

No didn't paint them, they are black BMW msport wheels. Think they are 405, you can get them as a winter kit, wheels and tyres. About £2,100. Look great IMO.
