Stability issues after mixing tyres (same brand)
Hi guys
I've recently swapped my rear Michelin Ps4S tyres for Ps5's whilst keeping Ps4S's on the front. I did this as the PS5's were cheaper and easier to get hold of at the time of purchase. Recently I've been noticing stability issues (DTC light flashing) during medium speed cornering and a real unnerving wobbly feeling under heavy braking. Has anyone else had a similar issue and is there anything I can do with my pressures to avoid swapping the front tyres out early? |

Have the new tyres scrubbed in properly?
They can take a good few hundred miles etc

Yeah I've done around 1500 miles on them now so they should be pretty much scrubbed in!

One user had Michelin PS1 on one axle and PS2 on the other. Just didn't work. Even Michelin and BMW who got involved, were dumb founded at the lack of stability and DSC intervention. Wasn't until just one spec' were fitted did the car get back to what was expected. There was another lesson learned at the time, different tyre characteristics, combined with suspension wear was involved with some examples of the 330i. Would be a good idea to check out the suspension for wear and/or soft bushes. |

Yeah might be worth a look! I knew the ps5 is slightly softer but I didn't think I'd be able to tell the difference on the road. I slightly regret not going for the sportscontact7 now

I'm assuming you have experimented with tyre pressures, changing front to rear pressure balance, to see if stiffening up the softer tyre does change the stability. Do it with care and I'd suggest only a couple of psi a time.

Sounds a plan. I'm not running 33F & 39R so I'll see how that handles

If youre getting an unnerving wobbly feeling under braking, i doubt its your tyres. I'd suggest taking it into a garage to ensure the wheels are running true and you havent got any broken/worn suspension components. Just because you changed the tyres doesn't mean its 100% them.
