Front-end Knock - When Accelerating hard on X-Drive

Hi All,

This is quite rare, but when i boot it from low speed and i presume the X-Drive is pushing the Torque to front wheels, i occasionally get a single loudish clunk from the front left.

I'm pretty sure its not the rack as i fitted the updated parts and it now feels tight with no slop. I also don't think its the ARB droplinks either as the car is quiet around corners and over bumps.

Any ideas what it could be please?

The car does also make a pinging noise also from the front left when reversing and turning - i suspect it could be top-mount related?

Thanks and happy new year!

I'd also suggest engine or gearbox mounts. not had any issues on my BMW yet but was common on my renaultsport.

Might also be worth getting the transfer box checked? I had an issue similar symptoms and turned out to be the transfer box!

I had the same symptoms. It was a broken motor mount bracket. Here’s to hoping that if yours is broken, it’s the right side. That one is 1/3rd the price of the left.

Wow thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll check all those things. Pretty sure it's not the spring as give given it a good feel, plus I bloody hope it's not the transfer case! It definitely feels like a front left knock.

Thanks mate, did you manage to spot the damage or is it a case of using a prybar to check it?

I am lucky enough to to have an extended warranty so the dealership saw the damage. But apparently it’s obvious from underneath once the panels are all removed.

When I get my car back it should have the broken part in the trunk. I’ll take pictures of it and post here.
