Dashcam options

Hi guys

You've probably had quite a few dash cam threads but after doing a search i couldnt find one to answer my questions

What im after is ideally a blackvue front and rear but its a little too expensive for my budget.

I want something with parking mode aswell as me being able to see a live feed on my iphone with the option to download footage on my phone.

Theres so many out there and i wanted to narrow down my options.

Also, if anyone knows someone who can fit in the yorkshire area that would be appreciated too.

Thank you

Some of the Thinkware cameras have rear camera options and transfer footage to phone/tablet via wifi but I doubt that they are much cheaper than the Blackvue.

I have the Thinkware F750 and I rate it : it has the features you are looking for.

Looks like a case of deciding between budget and quality/functionality, unless you can find one for sale second hand.

Have a look at the DR450 model.
Having the live feeds IMHO is a bit gimmicky. You can alsways remove the SD card to get a file on your phone.
As for fitting. Easy DIY job.

I have been dithering over the F770 for a while and now the F800 is out.

Maybe i should up my budget a little

On spme of the older blackvue cams, can the camera connect to your wifi and can you see the parked footage live? Or would you need a connection in the car specifically?

On the Dr650, you need a wifi hit spot in the car to view live footage.

If you just want to view live footage, get your phone to connect to the dashcam. If you want to view recordings, you can do the same but due to the hirez files, it can be slow. I've found that if I want to view the Blackvue recordings, popping the SD card out and playing it on PC is the quickest way.

Blackvue DR650S 2 channel live view on my Samsung tablet.

Dont feel the need to upload the footage direct to 'the cloud' via wifi but if you find the requirement to view stuff, get one of these little badgers from Amazon. Allows you to stick the micro card in to a reader that you can plug in to your phone/tablet/PC.

.
That's fine if you are in or close to the car. The op wants to view the footage away from the car. For that the car needs a wifi hotspot.

Unfortunalty you need to pay for it, they cost alot for a good reason.

To get a wifi hotpot the cheap way is the put a wifi dongle in the car so it has wifi connection all the time and the blackvue can send the clips to it's cloud drive which lets you access it wherever you are.

i was going to sell mine a few months ago and decided to keep my DR550 2-channel. They shouldn't cost alot now on ebay but if i was buying i would go forbthe latest one

Has anyone had the BMW ADVANCED CAR EYE fitted?

I was thinking the Thinkware but the BMW could be fitted before I collect the car.

Ok seems the hotspot option is costly. What if the car was in range of my home broadband..would i be able to see anything then?

The blackvue app itself, what is it good for? In the sense tht does it connect to the car to see the footage?

Take a look at the nextbase cameras - the 312GW has just won a Which magazine test and can be bought on Amazon for £89. I've had 4 nextbase cameras and they have all worked flawlessly so would recommend. In fact I'm buying 2x 312GW for my new 335d arriving this week - enough said.

Yes because it's using your broadband to connect to the cloud.

Yo may want to look at footage at the time of the incident. The Cam wifi allows a wireless connection between your phone and the SD card to review and save footage. It also lets you align the cam because the is no screen on the cam.

The Live view is a gimmick. In Asia, cars tend to have wifi hot spots so you could watch where a person is and give them directions live.
Using the app, you can follow drivers that have not secured their network and have created a wifi hotspot using their phone.

I've got the F+R in my F30. Video quality is ok but its very big. Not as discrete as some. Kind of like that though. One bug bare with it is that it will ask to format the SD card every few days.

They are easy to fit your self. A hard wire install will take about an hour. Otherwise it's a 2 minute job.

R11RRY, check also Garmin Dashcam 55 or 65W models. Those are tiny and capable little devices. I have had 65W model ~1 month connected to 12v power socket under the clove box. I bough parking mode cable last week - haven't installed it yet though.
