The dashboard rattle and steering rack buzzing sound don't go away unfortunately, if you have those then you need to get the car serviced and whatever the technicians end up doing turns out to be a temporary solution. I would know because I'm at round 4 for service. I am happily going to take it in a total of seven times so I can get the buyback/lemon process started as I made the mistake of purchasing the car. Had I leased it, I wouldn't complain so much even though it is absolutely unacceptable for a car that costs 50k.

I hear the rattle sometimes. It sounds like from the HUD but only at 3k rpm and only when engine is cold. When its warm the sound goes away.

I suspect it's the the engine fan running full blast. Don't ask me why but three times already I've had the engine fan running at full when it was a very cold day. Car has 400 miles . Ill let em check it after break in period

I actually realized I was posting in the wrong forum all too late. I'm sorry, not sure how I got here. Thought it was the E90/ E92 forum. Stupid mobile app

My E46 M3 had that. Not a biggie.

I just got a new 2012 328i and I am free of any rattle... but this worries me because Im planning on getting Bilstein PSS10 Coilovers put on soon and I dont want the stiff suspension to cause rattle issues... My Audi A3 had the same suspension for 2 years, super stiff (we're talking go-kart), and it never had rattle issues.... =/

Had my car in 2 weeks ago for a steering wheel squeak and brake pedal squeak. They fixed the brake pedal and claimed to have fixed to fix the steering wheel squeak, but it's still happening. As for a rattle, there's a rattle that seems like it's coming from the steering column when driving down an older highway road or rough road. Not pleased at all.

Just took my car in again for them to resolve the squeak again. The last time they said they lubricated something on the steering column and couldn't reproduce it. I recorded the squeak and sent it via email to my service adviser. Also mentioned the other rattle and the fact iDrive claims I need to put more washer fluid in when the reservoir is indeed full.

Hmm. My car makes a very small (but very annoying after a while) rattle/whistling noise.. It also makes a grinding noise at very low speeds (20km/h).. Got mine booked to a dealer on Tuesday, hope they can do something about it..

Alright fellows, I need some serious advice here, I have some serious rattles in the cabin. Does anyone believe that if I made enough noise about it and took the car in for service more than a few times (I was told 7 for Illinois) for the same issue, BMWNA might take the car off my hands?

I know that BMW will send the "field engineer" to look at it but everyone knows how that goes. I've already taken my car in for service various times and I'm aiming for a cap of 7 times.

Problems I have include rattles all over the cabin + steering wheel buzzing.

What can I do here as the buyer?

i dont think u can lemon a car for rattles...they could say its not a safety issue? im not sure though...they may compensate u with some goodwill cash for your troubles.

Steering box problem? What happened?

I've got a subtle squeak in the cold when I hit big bumps, and a paper crinkle noise from the passenger side... But honestly, it's so I frequent, that I'll wait until it becomes worse/frequent.

This is sort of common with new BMWs and usually goes away by 10k, with weather changes and plastics rubbing setting Into place over time. Let's see.

Apparently my service department can't replicate the squeak, so they won't be able to fix it. I even sent them a SOUND CLIP and they said they can't do anything.

Rattles and squeaks are like mild tinnitus. Your brain will eventually filter them out, just when you are about to sell your car.

2013 328i series and rattle

I just purchased my 3rd 3-series car and this one has a rattle coming from the right passenger/dash area. My husband and I aren't sure just where it is located. Has anyone else had a similar rattle? Going to the dealer again next week.

Rattles are coming from two places:
the plastic around the HUD
the area where the NAV meets the dash...

My dealer had to replace the NAV to solve that issue...at least they bought it back??

I get a rattle from the dash accent stripe just under the centre vents, as well as a rattle from the front passenger door (only sometimes, and only when there's a passenger) and from the sunroof mechanism in the roof. I already took it to the dealer to have them do something about the roof rattle and they tightened the bolts in there. It went away for a while, but they must have come loose again.

It seems I will have to go back if I want a rattle free experience. The warranty covers rattles and such for the first 12 months.

I got a massive rattle or buzzing sound coming from shifter area. I tried the DIY fixes and no luck. I will go to dealer. Upsetting to say the least for a month old car.
