Oil level issue
So I just got a pre-owned 2014 335i a month ago and put about 800 miles on it. It gave me a "Engine oil at minimum" warning. I ran the engine oil level check several times to make sure it was giving me consistent readings and it was consistently giving me the same warning. So I put a quart of Castrol Edge in it and checked the oil level again and it was right between the maximum and minimum level. I checked a few times after that and it was staying consistent at mid level. I checked again yesterday morning again, and now it's saying the engine oil level is at a maximum. WTF? I have no idea where the engine oil level is at and there is no dipstick.

Take it to a dealership or independent shop and have them check the sensor.

Usually takes a day or two for the reading to be accurate.

Didn't know this. Yeah the mid-level readings were right after I put the new quart in and hours after. The max level reading came the morning after, probably around 12 hours later.
So I guess the dealership just didn't fill up the engine oil when they sold it to me and I burned through enough to get to a minimum level in the 800 miles or so I drove (I did drive pretty hard). I have not noticed any leaks whatsoever. I'll make them check for a leak and the sensor my next service unless it goes low again. |

The N55 burns oil, especially if you drive it hard. Dealer confirmed this is a known trait of the engine.
I'd say I went through a quart every 7,500 miles or so with both my E90 and F30 335s. 5k into my 340/B58 so we'll see. |

Put more oil until the system shows the max line! But make sure the temperature is right, no more than 90 degrees Celsius!
Sometimes when the oil gets old the car starts to burn it, so I recommend to change the engine oil with the new one! ? |

My '13 335i burns oil. I get anywhere from 2000-4500 miles between oil level warnings. Mostly in the summer, maybe I drive it harder then. Dealer is useless. They have replaced my sensor and now I no longer get it's at a minimum warning unless I check the oil. It's a pain in the ass but I love my 335.

There is nothing normal about excessive oil consumption. In addition, one of the results of a malfunctioning crankcase ventilation system can be increased engine oil consumption. I suggest to insist on performing oil analysis and calling BMWNA. |

This is what BMW considers normal oil consumption. In 4 years I have added 14 quarts of oil. On only four occasions did I get more then 4K per quart. They refuse to budge on this.
