19inch wheels for F30 xDrive
Hi guys,
I have model F30 xDrive. I currently have 17inch wheels (225/50/17) and I want to upgrade to 19inch. I read a lot of rumors that if you don't stick strictly to OEM wheel sizes, you can mess up the xDrive. I know that there is a rule that the difference in circumference of front and rear axle wheel can't be above 1%. But are there additional rules (like rim size) or something like that that you need to follow in order to keep xDrive system safe? My new rims are 19inch 8,5J, ET35 (both front and rear). I hesitate between tire sizes 235/40/19 and 245/35/19 (square setup). What do you think about those tire sizes, will both of them fit correctly? Thanks in advance! 245/35/19(25.8") will increase the unsightly x-drive wheel gap. mild-mild+ lowering recommended if using this size.
235/40/19(26.4") will reduce wheel gap and make the x-drive gap less unsightly if you do not plan on lowering. |

alohasurftoad Thanks for your reply, really appreciate it.
Yes, that makes sense. And as for the xDrive, it will not mess it up? I'm asking because the OEM wheel size for 19inch is: Front: 8J ET36 225/40/19 Rear: 8,5J ET47 255/35/19 And mine are square 8,5J ET35 235/40/19. |

Square set here on an xdrive with no issues at all.
19x8.5 35 offset with 245/35/19 - slight drop |

The squared setup is irrelevant regarding wheels (tires do though as mentioned). What matters is the tires overall diameters. In the back of the owners manual, at least for Canadian cars, it does list the oem diameters for the 19 inch wheels on xDrive models. They are as follows.
Front: 225x40x19 Rear: 255x35x19 The other posts are accurate regarding ride height and appearance. I had my new 19's on for a few days before my suspension was installed and it does look comical in the front and as such, did not take photos. But this is what it looks like with the new coilovers I have the wheel turned to show the clearance of the tire instead of the wheel. I figure, if it can come from the factory with these tire sizes on the xDrive, it won't affect anything they won't cover. Last edited by Skywgn1; 06-02-2023 at 10:11 PM.. |
