What made you choose your line?
There's things I like about the Sport line, and things I like about the Luxury line. I think the Modern line is pointless though (actually I think the whole idea of these lines is daft, but there we go).
On the Luxury line, I like the chrome sills and 18" alloys. I also like the surprising fact in the UK it comes out slightly cheaper than a loaded Sport with sport seats, leather and 18" wheels (assuming there's no mistake been made on the configurator). On the Sport line, well, I guess I like the idea of the "sport" suspension. But as M sport suspension is an option on both, I don't really get what the difference is. Does anyone know? What was it that made you choose your line? |

You are lucky to be in the UK,
the Sport seats are available on the Luxury line... and as you pointed it out, so is the M-Sport suspension ... I dont see the need to buy Sport line ... unless you like the exterior sporty black trims...

That's what I'm thinking... although I don't really see the black strips as "sporty". I think "boring" or "cheap" describes them a bit better!

I don't fully love the idea of the lines and especially how limiting they are in the US. There are bits of each that I like.
From Sport Line I like sport suspension, sport seats and anthracite headliner. There are actually parts of the Modern Line that I really like...the front pieces near the fog lights and the turbine wheels. I can't stand all Oyster interior and the Black/Oyster combo is hideous IMO. If I could have gotten Modern Line exterior styling with sports suspenion, seats and anthracite headliner I would have gone for that. In the end I had to go for what line offered me the most I liked and that was Sport. I couldn't sacrifice sport suspension, seats & anthracite headliner.

In the end, i went with Luxury because i am thinking, i will eventually tint the car, drop the car.... as for the sport seats, my fat @$$ will just have to move side to side in the corners

Totally agree with all of the above. I wanted a hybrid of the Sport and Luxury lines (e.g. sports seats, sports suspension, non-wood interior, chromeline exterior, luxury 18rims).
We are lucky in the UK in that we can spec most stuff on the Luxury line so I was able to find a reasonable compromise. Still, it wasn't perfect and I would rather they dropped the lines and opened up all the options. The US guys get a rougher deal here apparently, but then I gather the cars a cheaper! But that's for another thread! |

Has anyone taken a luxury and a sport for back-to-back test drives? Is there much difference in the suspension? As I said in the UK the Sport doesn't have full M-sport suspension unless there's a mistake in the configurator. Last edited by Feanor; 03-09-2012 at 11:22 AM.. |

The question then becomes, do you want the flexibility of variable suspension or do you go fixed? As you say, would be good to get an objective comparison of all three which is kind of where this thread is at: http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=652102 |

I have added the most recent UK price list I have here: http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=659673
Helps to visualise your options choices across all lines. |

I actually like the lines. I don't like chrome and I love the interior of the sport line with the black and red. I say BMW know what they are doing when they created these lines.

sport seats, suspension, and transmission.
aesthetics dont mean a whole lot to me, its all about how the car drives/handles

I've a lot of respect for that viewpoint. Again, it seems like there's more genuine difference in the American lines than there is on the European ones. What's the difference with the transmission?

Either the published acceleration figures are for sport autos or there isn't actually a material difference. |
