I don't think any of us get the spoiler hoping we will shed any time off our lap or be able to go faster. You would need to be a professional driver to take advantage of the extra traction. Even then, you would benefit more from a wing and not a spoiler at the track.

They don't generate down force, they reduce lift generated by the shape of the car. So no, a spoiler will generate no where near 200 pounds of down force, but it may reduce 100-200 pounds of lift.

Yea why not. The spoilers on nascars aren't much bigger and they reduce it by enough to stop the car from lifting off the ground.
Porches after 75 mph, the spoiler comes up and they claim it can reduce lift by up to 50%. If you've seen them before, there not that big. For spoilers it's not about size but how well it redirects the air. Again, we buy these spoilers for looks, no ones trying to shed time off their lap with these. Plus they wouldn't be very efficient anyways since spoilers arent really made for autocross.

Considering these cars are designed for 200KPH+ on the autobahn, I doubt lift is much of a concern.
But, I like the look of the spoiler on the car. Adds a nice lines to the rear. I do need to change my rear diffuser though. I find the m-sport rear looks a little weak with the painted smooth diffuser (or lack of it). |

I like the look with it. Got the Ebay version and perfect it.
Don't feel any performance gains.

My Vote is for the spoiler, Like previous members has stated, it purely cosmetic unless you are driving in excess of 100MPH which the majority of us do not, and even if we do, its not maintained at that speed long enough to reap the benefits of the spoiler.
I have an M4 replica I got from Ebay. (Liked the more aggressive styling compared to OEM) and I think it definitely gives the rear a more aggressive note. The M package front Bumper is extremely aggressive, and the spoiler definitely helps complete the whole look. |

Alpine White 435 coupe with M Bumpers. Can't decide if I should have it painted Jet Black or Matte Black. My roof is wrapped gloss black and the rear diffuser will be painted alpine white with the middle diffuser black. No carbon cause of bad experience in the past. Weather here is not so great with CF.

As for the NASCAR comment the faster a car goes the more effective aero devices are. There is also a trade off in spoiler/wing height, drag & lift reduction. This is why they ZO6 has more top speed than the Z07 which has a bigger spoiler but the Z07 will handle better.
