a buddy of mine told me, when i got my car: "do they make a version for men?"

...

That's because I used to critize his car: he bought an A5 convertible (2.0T).

telling him: he should have bought the coupe version, which is cooler and more manly

Haters gonna hate

I've found, through life's experiences, that there are people out there who cannot accept the achievements of others, combine it with a bit of jealousy, and thus hate due to an inferiority complex. If they wanted to be in a position to afford a BMW, well then maybe they should have made other life choices. That, my friend, is not your problem. It's theirs. Enjoy your new car and your station in life. You've obviously earned it!

The world has plenty of people who seem unable to elevate themselves through their own efforts and so instead try to make themselves feel good by bringing down those around them by slagging off their choices, and it's not just cars.

A work colleague slagged off my car recently, not because he could find anything wrong with it other than it's red (and he's driving a 7yr old faded blue Golf)

Congrats. I am picking mine up today . 2013 335 x drive. Should be getting it around 10am Ordered on Aug 17. I know your excitement. As for your co-workers, who cares. I am buying what I want and someone doesn't like it, it does not bother me. I dont buy to make them happy.

Sort of the same happens to me. A co-worker will say, must be nice to be able to buy a BMW (when I bought my last one), and I'll say, probably cost less then your 3/4 ton crew cab 4x4 top edition diesel truck (lots of those here, and I'm guilty too)

Many people who know nothing about BMWs assume they all cost $75k or more.

I personally would have simply said "new car". If they asked for more I'd give additional details. Assuming the person asking isn't a fellow Bimmerphile or someone I have a close working relationship with. Specifying the model right out of the gate is a bit boastful in my opinion. Know your audience.

exactly right here...actually id have said "nothing much," like I always do to co workers who ask me. id only give out the details if the person asking me was someone who i hang out with from time to time and theywere asking me what i was doing because they wanted to know if i was free or not....but yea, know your audience spot on

I'm over it now, but the stuff i had to hear, i was about to walk outta there. i don't show off anything in life but this being my first german car, i was overly excited since my car got delayed like 3 times this month so when i got a phone call from the dealer saying its gone be ready this sat i couldn't stop smillin all dayyyyyy! lolz...o well...i just had to vent, i prob shouldn't have though...

Your frugal co-workers will think you burn through money parking your BMW next to their 2002 Camry.

Your rich co-workers will wonder why you bought a car they buy for their daughter when she gets her learner's permit.

Only if you have some "enthusiast" friends might you get any props for getting a 3er. Mostly, they will only care if you plan on chipping or modding the car.

I would be hating on the usage of the words "ur" "u" and "ppl".

If you can afford a $40k+ car you can afford to use all of the keys on your keyboard.

*haters gonna hate*

I will never chirp anyone for buying anything they earned, but if mommy and daddy bought it and you act like/tell people it's yours, you're fair game.

Nobody I know gives me a hard time for stuff I have but I don't flaunt anythin...I don't douche it up. Some people do. And if you do that, it doesn't matter how you got it, you suck.

By the way, I am choosing to ignore the fact that you are missing a comma in the quoted text.

I just hate BMW drivers.
Many of them are drug dealers or dodgy bankers.
Ah well, life's a bitch!

I didn't tell anyone when I bought mine... Until someone at work saw me getting into my car a couple weeks later, no one even knew. Just not something I felt the need to share with people for the reasons people already mentioned. I didn't want anyone to get the impression that I was bragging or whatever. It's just a personal purchase to me and I don't talk about when I buy a watch, tv, etc.

So when asked what I was doing, I would've said what I was doing and left out the car purchase. Different strokes for different folks. People like to make a big deal of things to give them something to talk about, good or bad.

When I leased our first BMW for my wife, the first day she drove to her work. One of her co-worker tells her that he is going to trading in his 328i for a porsche, it because everyone at work is following him to buy a BMW. Hater~~~
