Dinan warranty question

I recently called my dealer inquiring about a stage 1 tune for my 2017 340i and they told me they discontinued offering dinan products due to dinan not honoring their warranty on numerous cases.

Anyone heard of this before?

Brett

"Brought to the workshop of any Authorized Dinan Dealer"

Words from their warranty. A large number of dealers have dropped out since BMWUSA cut ties back around 2007.

All different claims why. Disagreement on who pays, license fees to high for the numbers of sales etc. Think is mainly about BMWUSA & Dinan parting ways.

Also back then it was the only game in town. The current market leaders like BMS etc were not around in any volume.

Sounds like the dealer was trying to blame issues on dinan equipment and dinan callled BS and removed that dealer from their resellers or the dealer backed out.

That was the main reason why I didn't go with Dinan on my MPPK & exhaust upgrade, I would rather go with BMW mod and avoid dealing with the hassled.

I've got mppsk but I'm looking for more. If it won't be dinan then I likely won't do anything. I was hoping it was a no hassle arrangement but it doesn't seem to be.

If you have another BMW/Dinan dealer in your area, it may be worth checking with them. My dealer still sells/installs/supports Dinan products.

My dealer is a huge installer. They have a dedicated showroom for Dinan products.

Thanx for the info everyone, good to know that for the most part it's been hassle free for everyone.

Similar to any other warranty, there are conditions. If case satisfies all Dinan conditions, they will fix it. If it does not, they won't.

If you are installing Dinan only parts, you are safe. If you are mixing performance parts from different companies, it gets trickier.

So with only a dinan tune and no other non factor performance parts it can be said that you are 100% safe with your warranty?

Under those circumstances you've outlined, I cannot possibly see why you wouldn't be covered under warranty.

Not your BMW factory warranty. Plenty of cases of BMW denying a claim due to Dinan parts. In this case, you can make a claim with Dinan through their warranty/insurace, and hope you meet their criteria. If you do, they will pay for the claim to be covered.

Hypothetical example - you install the Dinan stage 1 tune and then blow your charge pipe. The dealership denies to fix this under warranty due to the Dinan tune causing extra stress (or some other BS lingo that dealers like to use in cases like these). You will then make a claim with Dinan and hopefully they will cover it.

We're assuming two different scenario's, sorry. You're addressing BMW warranty (which could be very true), whereas I presumed he was talking about Dinan's.

Ahhh I see, sorry about that ... I wish Dinan would call their policy "insurance" or something similar, since it's not really a warranty. Confusing

It is a warranty - it's just not BMW's, it's Dinan's.

If all your mods are Dinan and the issue is related to tuning, you should be covered.

We all know the CP is a weak link and it did blow on Dinan Stage 2. Dealer replaced it without question.

Some of the Dinan products explicitly state that they are not covered under the Dinan warranty so these are the exception. Also, some dealers that service and install dinan products may choose not to in the future so you are at the mercy of the dealer network. Dinan vs BMW M Performance products you are always going to potentially have issues with coverage vs. with Motorsport division products you won't have to worry about coverage as much. There's still some fine print you may have to look at as would be the case even with a stock car.
