Tonight I was cruising along at the 35 mph speed limit when this guy in I think a ricer civic cuts off around fast and goes 35 right next to me. It was a stupid "race" I was pretty lazy on the downshift and was a whole car ahead.

Wow I'm a badass I know he proceeded to get next to me again after the next light and I accelerated up to 35 semi rapidly and he smashed on it and then he was gone...

I usually just drive my car to have fun, as I have learned the stupid consequences of screwing around racing. Ever Since I got my first bimmer is is not uncommon at all for people to try to race and my car is bone stock.

Maybe my driving provokes others? I'm sure I'm not the only one right? :

Happens quite a bit to me as well. Although funny enough it's usually people in big ol trucks that love to race. A scion tried being a bad ass and after I smoked him from one light to the next he gave up and fell behind

I also have a pretty aggressive exhaust system set up so that may be part of the reason people like to go

Happens to me all the time, and I've only had the car a month. I had a giant banana face for years beforehand and no one ever messed with me.

I think it being MT might have a little something to do with it as well, they hear/see that it's a manual and assume that the owner wants to race around everywhere.

Haha I feel it. I think I made the guys night tho because when I stopped accelerating at 35 mph he turned on his hazards. I'm assuming he though he pulled on me or something.

Lol

People don't get it lol

I regularly beat people in Eco pro just to laugh about it.

there was a forced fed BRZ on the 15 toll last week who just wouldn't get it. I already pulled him 3 times but he won't give up...so I just sit at a buck. Wait for him to catch up and almost pull along side me then I would floor it and watch his car get smaller in my mirror. It just look like he stop accelerating...kid got so mad lol

All. Day.

My favorite is having a debadged wagon with a tune. Beat lots of people off the line out of sheer shock lol.

In MD you don't really get people that want to "race" you as much as cut you off to try to get ahead in traffic.

Fortunately with a N55 you can prevent that from happening with the liberal application of throttle.

MD is somewhat unique in having a lot of drivers whose ego usually exceeds their driving abilities. This becomes really apparent in curves/corners. You can usually tell these drivers apart by when they drive 20+mph over in the straights and then do the speed limit or suggested speed around corners/curves. This is usually where I pass them on two lane curves. You watch them in your rear view mirror trying to keep up and failing miserably.

I get a good chuckle from this because they don't realize how futile this is. In most of these cases, you have a driver with some formal track experience/training in a car with sticky summer tires versus a typical driver with little to no formal training/experience and crappy tires.

I generally have no interest in racing and have only done a pseudo race once. I was showing off the Bimmer to a friend last summer and she loves the feeling of hurtling forward as your body presses back against the seat. We were in a two lane highway passing section in the outside lane doing around 100-110kph when a sporty Hyundai (Veloster or an Elantra GT with a tune) came roaring up on us to pass. I thought, "What the hey, give her some fun." I didn't floor it, just used enough to hold him off and we cleared the passing section a little over 160kph. Wow, this car has a wide torque band! We were both chuckling as he waited for an opening in traffic and then tore past us in a no passing zone.

I don't think I'll do that again: I have no interest in being party to some idiot killing himself or others in a "rit of fealous jage."

Some people believe it or not, cannot tell the difference between BMW 3 series models. They think you have a 320/328 or they assume you're slow so they challenge you to see if they can beat you so they can brag about it to their civic buddies. Until you show them otherwise and pull 20 car lengths on them.

Hell, people around here don't know what motor I have or think their V8 Charger R/T will win because it's a V8. Some dude said I had the best sounding 4 cyl, like wtf?

Happens all the time here, it was mostly civics but now I'm sure they talk to each other, the civics just roll behind me to hear my exhaust because they know they can't win

Now it's mostly SRT-4s and Subaru STI that normally challenge me, both of course lose as the SRT-4 has shitty FWD grip, and the STI has no mid-range power so on the roll I just pull car lengths.

Thats the ultimate question to you US people who are always limited to 'moderate' speeds what we call in Germany snore-mode :
For what reason you are buying cars with lots of HP, tuned and power when limited by law in such ways? Is it just "because I can and I will"?
My experience with a bimmer is, if you buy one, you'll buy automatically the cliche with it and have to deal with some people who choose you to measure out their dic*s size. Meanwhile Im old enough to stand against such drivers but I understand that its not always easy to withstand the temptation to answer appropriately

I'm a bit weird with the whole "who do I want to race" thing... I want to lose. To be clear, if I was GOING to race anyone rather than just enjoy my own car, I want to see how I can do against a car, and preferably a driver, that WILL beat me. I want to see how well I can do against something better...and then I enjoy seeing their taillights. Nothing prettier than a Ferrari moving away from you! Except maybe a Ferrari that you are actually driving, I guess.

Yeap. I smoke a month ago an s5 from the light. He was going a little crazy before the stop light with a loud exhaust, then we got together at the light and he rolled the windows down and ask me; Sure why not. Sport +, shifter to the left and floor it. 0-60 he was a car or two behind.
