Extended Test Drive
Does anyone have any experience with BMW offering extended test drives such as giving a car over the weekend? I am looking at getting an 2AT for the wife..
VW offered me (I was a loyal VW buyer changing both cars for about 14 years every two years without fail) a Touareg and Phaeton for two separate weekends so I was wondering if BMW offer something similar. With the F20 we had the standard test drive and now we (minus my son) don't like the car and the problems we have with the car (except from the faulty iDrive unit) would have been apparent if we had the car over the weekend.

We find it too small and too cramped. The ergonomics of the car are appalling- the golfs we had were better in every respect except from refinement when it came to road noise. This isnt helped by the poor level of service we get from my dealerships service team which is worlds apart from when my F10 goes in. The F20 has been to the service department 3 times in 4 weeks and will be in again next week for a new iDrive unit to be fitted. My E60 in about 5 years went in twice and my F10 once and the F10 is two months older than the F20! I know this is a unique problem to my F20 but the first two issues regarding the size are not.

I've had many cars for a day or two. My dealer leant me an E92 to take to Manchester for the weekend as I wasn't sure I could live with a 2 door!

I guess it depends what rapport you have with your dealer? Do people turn up to a dealership they have never been to (or hardly been to) and get an extended test drive? Or a test drive without a sales bod sitting next to you?
I tempted to ask for an extended drive in an M3 from my local dealer ...... but as I've never bought a car from them they don't know me from Adam so not sure if I'd get an extended drive. They may think that I'd use them for the test drive then go elsewhere and buy the car!

As said above, just ask your contact at a dealer. In the past 6 months I've had extended test drives of between 24-48 hours in a Nissan GT-R, an F-Type and only just last weekend a Range Rover Vogue.
The GT-R had to be arranged through Nissan UK who then put me in touch with an obliging dealer, but both The Jag and RR were done by asking salesmen that I've known for a while. |
