Turbo Lag

Hi guys i have a 2013 328 sedan. The first thing i noticed when i drove the car is that when the car is in full stop and i try to accelerate there is a huge turbo lag , it takes a good second for the engine to respond ( even with DSC off).
I even purchased the BMS stage 1 tune, and did not notice anything different.
Are you guys having the same problem?

Mine does that too...I wouldn't associate it with turbo lag though. It just takes a moment to get moving if you don't launch.

You might try some 0-60 times to see if your getting what other people are. Maybe go drive another one and see if it behaves the same?

Might be a transmission lag if we are talking about 8spd autos.

Definitely no such problem here. Mine seems to be getting more and more satisfying every time I drive it. Immediate power off the line in comfort and sport (especially sport+).

I seems that my car is doing 5.8 sec 0-60 even with BMS tuning
Can you guys think of a way to fix that?

Did you properly plug in the tune? If so, the tune could be bad and definitely want to switch it out with another one. And as far as the turbo lag, mine does that too in the beginning. But after a few times of just driving it around, its like as if it builds up and then your off!

How are you timing your runs? How many 0-60 runs have you completed? Road condition? How much fuel in your tank? How many people in the car? Weather conditions? Any extra weight in the car? Tyres - inflation of tyres?

Each of these parameters can add or subtract vital 10ths of a second.

Anyone saying they don't have lag is either lying or so used to it they are forgetting what no lag feels like. I have now had my second round with a 328 and as I noticed the first time in a different 328 the lag is just unacceptable. I step on the gas, count to 1..2.. then it pulls.

Just part of owning a turbo car other than the new m5 with its turbo design and cross flow manifold being in between the cylinders makes for less lag but even that is very very noticable.

With peak torque at 1250rpms, just a bit off of idle, I find with the 6mt that the lag is about as minimal as it can be.

I came from years of owning modified Saabs, familiar with turbo lag lol. The N20 is fairly well regarded in the press for being nearly lag free.

From a standing start a 1 second delay is normal and quite ok for a turbo stock car. Try accelerating hard once you are moving and rpm's is around 2000 and you will notice little to none. That is just how turbos work .... (launch control please!)

Holy crap, you guys complaining about this very minor turbo lag is funny. Starting to sound like some of the whining customers we get bitching about a hesitation off the line compared to their previous E90. Other than the N14/N18 turbo Minis this is the fastest spooling turbo car I have drove. You want to feel lag? Come for a ride in my Evo with the new turbo setup, full boost (45psi) hits at 6800rpm. Let me ask you this, if the car is the 8 speed auto, are you brake boosting off the line?

Seriously, it really isn't bad at all! Shit! I love my car man! Compared to my E90!

yeah, im starting to think some people's driving style is questionable. ive never once just pulled my foot off the brake and then punched the gas, no wonder there is a delay. you would never do that with a 6mt so i can see why its not as noticeable. ive been thinking when they are talking lag, they are noticing it during normal acceleration. anyone saying that is either lying or they have a super sensitive lag meter.

Not sure if you will be able to view this video since its on my Facebook page, but this was a 0-137mph run that I did with just the AFE scorcher mod (closed course obviously ) and it topped out in just under 20 seconds. Going from driving my Evo to this, its like its N/A lol. If you don't like the lag, put a 50 shot in it.

as far as BMS, i contacted them and they said if the wiring was wrong the car would give me an error. So since it does not the BMS tuning is working properly.
I will do a dyno test tomorrow, will post all the results too.

Hi, I've noticed the same thing on my 328i since beginning, I've had a post in the Australian forum about this.
I just don't f*ken get it when people say they don't feel it and say we complain about it too much.
Guess some people don't like admit to their fault, some don't like to admit about the car because they are driving it.
I had a guy on my OP says BMW need to change the laws of physics to fix this problem.....what a dumb f*khead.

To be fair, it was a tongue in cheek comment/question, but not at all helpful to your thread, I agree.

This turbo lag issue is relative to other cars' turbo lag. I understand that unless you raise the revs of a WRX prior to launch, turbo lag takes several (perhaps longer) seconds. Top Gear had a WRX/non turbo comparison segment a few years ago, highlighting the WRX's massive lag.

Perhaps when the world's motoring press praised the F30 for 'virtually no turbo lag', it was in comparison to other manufacturers' cars as well, with a second or so being acceptable.

Yes, the 8AT 328i has a short turbo lag because you need exhaust gasses to fire it all up as I mentioned in the other thread, but the 6mt will probably fare better as you can freely rev the engine prior to starting off.

Have you tried a footbrake start in your 8AT to determine if this at least changes the delay? No way am I suggesting this is the everyday answer, but at least you will know.
