enough tread left for one day at the track

My rear Potenza S04s are just at the wear bars, front have about twice as much tread. I may be out at Seabring this month for a track day and was wondering what you guys think of using the last bit of tread for a track day. I know i'll be replacing them right after, but am wondering if it's safe. thanks.

Change them out beforehand. Better to be safe than sorry on track. Even if you did decide to try running them, they will likely fail tech.

Depends on the club and how they run tech. Some will allow tires as long as the cords do not show.

If it's wet out, it's going to be slippery with tires worn down to the wear bars.

With such low tread the tires won't last long, I'd agree changing them out is the way to go.

Also, new tires will perform much better, so you'll have a better driving experience as well. Nothing worse than being held back by underperforming equipment.

I had one instructor tell me that tire at the near the bars are preferable to brand new tires. Something about tread blocks on new tires having more lateral movement. My CCA chapter says 2/32 is enough.
