What makes you want catless over hfc? I'm toying with the idea of HFC in the near future, mostly for the smell. I have JB4 stage 2 so the code wouldn't be an issue.

Now I've never actually been around a car with a catless DP, but I've heard so many mixed reviews about the smell. Some say it's terrible, others say it's not bad and you only notice it if you're idling and outside the car.

I just wonder if either makes a difference to BMW in the event of a warranty claim and how much performance one would give up with HFC over full catless with a tune.

It's probably 5whp.... I got the hfc for the reduced smell, reduced black soot, and the code. Since I ended up getting stage2, the code isn't an issue. I don't care what anyone says, even with the hfc, you still get some of the smell and I cAn start to see the black soot on my white bumper a day or two after washing.

My thought process is that if I'm gonna do it, might as well go all the way with catless. I'd expect the smell and soot to increase marginally but it's not that big of a deal. It's only noticeable when your parked idling or at startup. I don't think there will be a difference in bmws mind if there's a warranty issue.

I agree with you on the warranty issue. Although, either way I can't see them worrying about it unless there is some exhaust issue. I don't really see much that a freer flowing exhaust could be linked to. Some have actually said it may increase the life of the turbo.

I'm on the fence, if there is no real difference (both will probably fail emissions) and the code is auto clearable by a tune (which I already have) then why not go catless. My concern was like you mainly the smell. I haven't really thought of the soot build up and haven't really heard that as an issue. I know our cars will build up soot in stock form. Having black tail pipes helps, but I know it's there as I clean them when I clean my car and there is always some build up, but I've never seen it on my bumper (red car though).

Wish I could find someone with catless just to see if the smell is tolerable and perhaps compare to catted, but not a big BMW performance market around where I live, mostly american unfortunately.

Because everything happened so close, I didn't have a lot of comparison time. I maybe put 30 miles on the car between the upgrades. I can say the Sport Displays were updated from a max range of 320/320 to 400/400 like others have stated. They pegged at 320/320 after the MPPK; and immediately after the DP install I spotted them ranging more towards 350hp. Further testing at WOT is def necessary, and I should try to hook up my GoPro to safely verify really. I also want to use it to get some exhaust audio. I can hear the cackle - lightly - in pretty much any gear off-throttle no matter if it's 5000 or 2500 rpms.
Overall, there's not a lot of increased sound inside or outside the cabin. There's probably 10% more when in the throttle, maybe more but nothing that's gonna turn heads. I've had cars in the past with full catless exhaust, so that's my measuring point! RPM's on this awesome 8sp trans make a difference too.

More to come. Hopefully audio/video whenever I have time.
As promised...
M-PPK and Challenge DP installed:

That actually sounds really good. How is the noise in the cabin when cruising or accelerating lightly from stop? I have the Borla Stype w/ hfc dp and it sounds amazing but is also loud when accelerating slowly from stock.. I was considering the mpe.

In the cabin... It's maybe 15% more in Sport mode with the windows down. When in comfort mode and 'regular' throttle application it's barely noticeable. I'm a car guy and have had many exhaust (some 100% straight) so I'm pretty sensitive to changes and it's pretty slight.
There's a slight vibration I can feel under throttle and it's def louder during an initial cold start - that's actually probably the biggest diff is the sound level at a cold start.

I've got more vid I can share. It's for the same trip before, so it's a 'hot' start but I'll try and splice up and share sometime.

I read on someone's build thread that you cant re-use the 2 mounting bolts from the stock down pipe, do you know if challenge provide's you with those 2 bolts and if not does anyone know the size, thanks.

Yes that sounds right if I remember correctly.... Also a good trick is to super glue the nut on to the DP before installing. It'll make more sense when you're actually doing the install.
