Xenon light kit for 3er

I found this while researching LEDs to replace my halogen bulbs; I didn't find lower kelvin rated LEDs so I opted for these.

Anyone else tried them yet ?

Interesting find.

Never seen it mentioned on the forum for Halogen Retrofits. Then again, I have Adaptive HID so it wasn’t like I studied every Halogen thread either.

One would think that from Phillips and for that price, it would certainly be the topic of multiple threads.

For reference, this is the link to order.

Yes, presumably it is designed for the halogen reflector. Ordering task will ask if factory or upgraded housing for the model your ordering them for.

nothing that claims it wont flicker will actually work on these cars trust me I have tried them all, you will have to code out the cold/warm checks or you will have issues

$45 is a lot better than $121. At that price you can afford to do highs, lows and fogs.

I’d trust Philips much more than some offbrand knock off.

Running a relay from Retro Solutions and surprisingly didn't have to code. More than a month now with no flickering issues.

Phillips bulbs are good, but is that the best application? Compared to the knockoffs, those are 35W vs 55W and have a 2 year warranty vs lifetime. I know of 2 threads here where folks had issues with aftermarket 35W HID kits that switched to 55W to fix (one was a lengthy install video, the other involves a non-depo ebay lights). I can tell you in my short time with the knockoffs (didn't even know there was an original benchmark HID retrofit others knocked off), they have performed beyond all my expectations, and appear very well built; they are the 5th HID kit I have installed in the past 7 years (2 DDM, L7?, and 1 Morimoto - had issues with none of them which made me kind of dislike the much higher price I paid for the Morimotos for no real gain). Let us know how those 35W work out. Good luck!

I'm not surprised. The warm/cold check pulses are too short in duration to cause either a halogen or HID bulb to flicker. LEDs react some ten times as fast, so they will flicker unless the hot/cold checks are coded out.

Exactly. Maybe that guy just didn't have good luck with relays? Lol

Or his experience was with LEDs. As I recall the response time for HID bulbs is even slower than halogen.

We're on a topic of HID.

Wattage has nothing to do with light output, only energy used.

Lumens is the only figure that matters bulb wise. The knockoffs “claim” 11,000 while Phillips claims 3400. As if I believe light output measurements from some no name Chinese lights.

Perhaps it ups you 100HP as well

Even this is only part of the equation as what really matters is the amount of light coming out the front of the headlights.

BTW, Phillips will be around in 2 years. Will a knockoff be? Or better yet, will they even respond when you have a claim?

The reviews have a verified purchase on Amazon that had no install instructions. He tried to get instructions several times and despite promises, never received anything.

So how are you going to get that “lifetime” warranty honored with that kind of support?

Definitely interested in these as well. Have been looking for a solution to my stock halogens for some time. Was close to pulling the trigger on LED's and following one of the DIY's on here but Ill likely wait for a review on these before deciding...

I'm really curious to see reviews on this kit as well, and would consider this as an option to upgrade my wife's F30. My assumption for it to work better in a halogen housing is if they rebased a Philips D2R bulb to an H7 base, or creating what you sometimes see online as an H7R bulb.

I did find myself wondering if this is a genuine Philips designed conversion kit, or if it's just some third party company using Philips parts (philips ballast and retrofitting a Philips HID bulb to an H7 base) to create a conversion kit and marketing it as Philips? When I went to the Philips Automotive lighting website, there was no mention of this conversion kit, let alone one that is specifically designed for BMWs.

Either way, really curious to hear reviews on this to see how it works out!

You might certainly be correct.

Again proving no matter how legit things look on the internet, do your homework.

I suspect Phillips would be interested in this.

If Phillips parts, you will still probably be ok.
