If NOT for the F30, then ...
... which of its direct competitors would be your second choice? Of course one may choose to upgrade, downgrade, etc... but the purpose of this is to gauge where others would turn assuming they choose to stay in the segment. I wish to keep it as simple as possible, and paint the question with broad strokes - I understand that it could get quite complicated depending on options, engine choices, etc... but, let's say ceteris paribus, what are your thoughts?
There is no scientific or greater purpose to this thread - it's more of a curiosity about the "average" mentality of the F30 forumite. |

1 series, slightly used Porsche, and the Cadillac ATS were what I considered (along with the F30).

ATS 2.0t 6mt is the best alternative.

I was looking for some thing newer and a little bigger than my 1 series. So I looked at the F30, but as soon as I checked out the ATS, the BMW was second on the list. I got the premium 3.6 V6. Items that made a difference were the magenetic ride suspension, a mechanical LSD, HUD, CUE, nicer interior and the V6 NA engine is a lot of fun. Miss the low end torque of the N54, but this V6 sounds awesome and revs nicely with plenty of power for me.

I would've probably kept my '08 TL.
The S4 was close but I wanted RWD, the ATS I've heard too many bad reviews about the transmission and I refused to give up my 6MT for anything less than a stellar automatic or DSG. I almost went with a VW TDI Sportwagen to be practical but realized I'd blow through more money in mods than I would save in gas.

Great idea for a thread, OP.
For me, ATS w/sport pack (ideally with the upcoming 8 sp auto), but otherwise 6mt.

Got a new 335 but would choose the Caddy in a heartbeat over your other options. Audi is way bland looking and the rest don't make the short list.
Good thread. |

Interesting that you mention gaps... I just noticed the body panel gaps the other day. Pretty big, but it seems like they make 'em like that these days. Someone snapped a pic of my car and sent it to me, and it looked like the trunk was misaligned, but, upon physical inspection, it was literally the angle of the shot (rear 3/4, from the height of the car). Pretty much my only gripe, if you could call it that... Sorry for the drift.
Anyway, what about a VW CC 3.6 "R-Line" (R-Line, F-Sport, M-Sport, S-Line... just thought about that)? Looks good on paper - anyone ever driven one? |

1. My first choice will be a new 1M, but too bad BMW doesn't make them no more, and second hand 1M is way overpriced! Hopefully BMW will lanch the new M2 soon enough, then I will trade in my G37 for it. 2. Second, Infiniti Q50 is not a bad choice compare with the Audi A4/S4, IS,or C class. My dad drives a new 2013 Audi A6(company car). It is a nice car with good looking body style, and it runs smooth too, but somehow it just not the car I would buy. 3. Third, IS350 was my company vehicle for my previous job. We used it to run some errands. It's a little car with enough power, but the room of the back seats were harrible. It is too small for a 6'2.

Prior to getting my F30, I test drove a number of other cars and felt the Cadillac ATS 2.0t was the second best, loved the handling and steering, but wasn't too crazy about the tiny trunk, interior, or CUE.
