No matter what gear you're in, there's no fuel delivered while coasting downhill. There IS if you're in neutral however....

You're still better off putting it in gear. The engine braking will lessen the wear on your brakes, and you'll use less fuel. When the car is in gear and you take your foot off the gas for more than a second or two, the fuel injectors will shut off completely. No I've been driving sticks since my first car at 17. Just seemed somewhat a dramatic departure from my M3 6 speed manual. Very smooth.
